No transfers. You can redeem your UA miles for AC flights. You should assess your planned travel against the status/benefits you'll receive if crediting to UA or AC; it's possible that sticking with UA is the better option.

If u call AP to find out the taxes, they immediately refuse (creating customer dissonance) to reveal taxes+fees. If you do want to find out what the cash cost is, use the website after logging in to find out, or ask them to create the booking with specific dates....act really surprised when they quote the fees and say it's too expensive, thank them, and wish them a nice day. They're accustomed to this....and none too happy from the tones in their voices....AC/AP management is not empowering them to provide the level of service expected by travellers.
Come on AP it's time to be upfront and transparent with your practices....or at least be willing to quote from a list of recent taxes and fees that "aren't guaranteed until paid in full"....

UA doesn't let you transfer out of their program anywhere, not even through third-parties like points.com.
But as mentioned, you can use your miles for AC flights, and will pay less taxes. The one disadvantage is that any AC flights using UA miles cannot be booked online and need to be booked over the phone with an agent, which will cost you a bit ($25 or $30, I think). However, even with this charge, AC flights still come out way cheaper than using AP miles, as there is no fuel surcharge levied on MP tickets.

Dont bother converting to Aeroplan...United, while it is not as good as the old Continental used to be...is still better than AP. AP charges all sorts of taxes/fees for the same exact flight where you can fly cheaper on UA.
Also, you can continue to use your UA miles on Air Canada and if you happen to be Gold or better, you can use the lounge as well in both the US and Canada as you will now be considered an international traveller since you will be based in Canada but have status on United.
