E-tickets vs paper on returns/refunds and mileage credit- Any differences?
Just wondering as I read hersheys TWA post on alterations for award tickets if anyone has any scientific or anecdotal info on differences in ease or difficulties returning e-tickets for refund compared to paper? You have the receipt and I guess they would just check to be sure you did not go on the flight? presumably you may also have a boarding pass but might have given it up and deplaned after a mechanical or ATC or something!
Also, on the mileage credit front, any differeences observed here with either accuracy or promptness of miles posting on various carriers. Most of my etickets have been freebie award travel and I never relly thought about this before!

I would think an e-ticket would be much easier to refund since you don't actually have a ticket. For instance where I work we do our ticketing through a travel agency downtown, but we have a ticket printer on site. Once we print a paper ticket, if we want a refund we have to send the ticket by courier back downtown, which is a pain. If you have a paper ticket, it can be refunded immediately.
On DL I've noticed no difference in mileage posting speed and accuracy ... DL is fast and accurate either way!
