American Express: 1250 free miles
I don't know if this is new news or not. I have an American Express card and just received an offer as follows: sign up for extended pay option and get 1250 membership reward points free. There does not appear to be an annual fee, and no service charges if the monthly bill is paid in full as usual. Enrollment offer ends July 31.

I received one today too. A few years ago I had Sign & Travel with my account. They would take any purchase over $400 and automatically put it in S&T. I got rid of it because it made for very confusing statements if you don't pay EVERYTHING off every month.
I think now once you sign up, you have the option of automatically putting everything in S&T or just purchases that you specify.
Its not a bad feature if you don't mind paying interest.

The people at American Express make this sign and travel option confusing on purpose.Their own cutomer service help can't even figure out the statements. All I can say is pay the entire bill off at once upon receipt, and as soon as you get confirmation of your 1250 points cancel the Sign and Travel then double and triple check that it has been done. Is it worth the 1250 points for this agravation? NOT!

this happened to me, i was told the total, then went ahead and paid it, called to have it cancelled, but it appreared on the next statement, more confusing ever... and finance charges were already added, NO ONE could take it out! didnt ever investigate if it was the correct amount either...
if u called amex, they had to transfer u to the SPECIAL AGENTS!!!
it took three cycles to totally rid of the S&T... harder to kill than the aliens!

all i can say it ARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!! i am sorry to hear that all of you have had the same experience. I have had this feature two times just to get the miles. Two times i have gotten the wrong balance applied to my account and have had to scream bloody murder to get it fixed. Amex is really trying to take advantage of the fact that the green card is not really a credit card, rather it is a debit card of sorts; they do not charge interest normally. They have cleverly figured out that they can now charge interest if you authorize them to convert your card. Imaging a problem like that: millions of green cards and no fees. Ha! Well, i have been told that they are "looking into this" and that something will be done. I say scrap the program altogether!

You could sign up and not use the card for large perchases.Get the bonus points then cancel. I wonder how many card holders have gotten tricked by this scamm? The attorney generals office in all 50 states should investigate this matter. Belle3838, the same thing happened to me, except they took off the interest as they documented my account the ammount I owed and in the end it still came out more then they said.

I've done it a couple times to get the free miles, but always paid the bills in full (I do have to pull out a calculator though). No problems except that the statements are so confusing (hence the calculator).
