Aeroplan's 15,000 mile short-haul award

For veteran Aeroplan members:

Do you think the Aeroplan 15,000 award for "selected short-haul flights within Canada or between Canada and Continental U.S.A." is safe and will continue to be available, or will it be discontinued?

My travel would allow me to use this reward, so this would be good for me and would get me to fly AC more often.

However, no need to do so if this award will be enhanced" as Gordon the Liar at Continental has done (eliminated 20,000 mile rewards after he stated no changes in 2002, ergo, the liar).

This award was recently enhanced to eliminate certain routes from eligibility - namely Alberta to Yukon and certain maritime options. I wouldn't bet the house that there will not be further enhancement although I've heard nothing on this front.

It will likely remain unchanged. However, they may remove some of the eligible routes. AC only gives 50% of the points on discounted domestic routes, so someone flying AC in Canada has to fly more to use one of these than someone flying domestically in the US and claiming a US award. People who fly transborder a lot win, and that gives AC an advantage over the US airlines they are competing with. It's a small plus amongst all the minuses of Aeroplan.

We haven't scared you away from Aeroplan yet? I fly any major US carrier over AC if they offer a reasonable choice.

Not scared away yet. I prefer US carriers as well. Carry-on is always a challenge with AC, and telephone customer service, well ...

Anyway, with the fare sale and the 60,000 mile promotion, this could be a good deal for trans border flights.

True, if you can ever use the points for anything useful. (You may have an another advantage flying transborder ... there seem to be more Aeroplan seats available than on domestic flights.)
