Bonus credit of only part of itinerary meets terms for bonus?
I tried looking up this subject in archives, but it is kind of difficult to pin down.
Suppose an airline has a promotion, and only part of your itinerary fulfills the promotion terms -- can you get credit for it?
As an example only:
UA's "Fly 3, fly free" promo. According to the terms:
Roundtrip travel is defined as two one-way trips that depart from and return to the same co-terminal booked in a single reservation under one qualifying ticket number.
Suppose I buy a ticket that has me flying
DCA - ORD on UA
ORD - Podunk on Commuter carrier A
Podunk - ORD on Commuter carier A
ORD - DCA on UA
If it was booked as one ticket, would I get credit for the ORD-DCA portion on UA, even though it was not the whole itinerary?
Mehopes yes, methinks no.
Thanks in advance

In United's case, it has made it clear in the T&C that flights had to be on United, United Express and TED flights.
So, if your communter flight is a United Express partner... you should be ok.

Not under this particular promotion, but I've flown into ORD on UA and ORD-Podunk on a United Express flight and had it all count for miles and bonuses with no problems.
If your commuter flight is something bizarre, I would still think that DCA-ORD-DCA on United would count as a roundtrip, but I don't know. Might depend on how it's ticketed...

Let me clarify my initial question:
The T&C of that promo state that the qualifying RT flights must be on UA/UAX/Ted metal. So, what if
DCA-ORD on UA metal
ORD-Podunk on 'UA' but on US metal
Podunk-ORD on 'UA' but on US metal
ORD-DCA on UA metal
The US metal portion does not count, but would DCA-ORD-DCA on UA metal count, esp if ticketed as one ticket?
