Let me clarify my initial question:

The T&C of that promo state that the qualifying RT flights must be on UA/UAX/Ted metal. So, what if

DCA-ORD on UA metal
ORD-Podunk on 'UA' but on US metal
Podunk-ORD on 'UA' but on US metal
ORD-DCA on UA metal

The US metal portion does not count, but would DCA-ORD-DCA on UA metal count, esp if ticketed as one ticket?
