OMNI: Flying and donuts

If you listen to the commercials on the radio there's one for DUnkin Donuts with the pilot and co-pilot in the cockpit munching on Donuts and those stuffed croissants and the coffee (some say it's great, I say BLEH!)

The captain jokes that they are enjoying real breakfast food while he says and I somewhat quote "it's better than that slop those folks in coach have for breakfast"

The punch-line: the idiot captain left the mike on.

I have a few problems with this spot:

*Aren't the cockpit crews smart enough to turn off the mike when they're done.
*I thought people were restricted from bringing most outside food on board a plane. These two guys brought on half of Dunkin' Donuts.
*How can they fly on automatic pilot and stuff their faces with donuts.
*and the OMNI point: Krispi Kreams are far better than the Dunkin variety.

But it is funny.

In addition: they didn't share with the overworked Flight attendants!

I haven't seen that commerical, however, I have seen people bring "carry-on" food. Everything from those personal size Pizza Hut pizza's, Burgers and Egg Muffin sandwiches. Thank goodness I haven't seen anyone bring donuts.....that would seem a messy meal to have on board.

Catman,

As far as I know there is no ban on bringing in outside food or drink (except alcohol) aboard a flight on most airlines. Considering that most flights in coach get a "bag nasty", if anything at all, it's not surprising.

BTW, if you haven't already heard, you can get Krispy Kreme donuts in Las Vegas! (Can't find 'em in south Texas, though )

And yes... it is a mortal sin not to share donuts with the overworked FAs!

When I was but a lad (never wee mind you) in college, the FA's and pilots for Aloha (AQ) would stop off at Byron's near HNL airport for plate lunch. It was pretty aggravating smelling good plate lunch, even tho the flights were all less than 30 minutes!

TropicalFlyer -- ever go to Byron's?

As I proposed earlier... maybe airline tickets on the short flights should come with a voucher for us to get whatever we want and eat it BEFORE getting on the plane.

OF course, there would be extra meals for those with no time to munch.

OMNI: Krispie Kremes would make a nice part of those bagged lunches or snacks on planes.
Thanks for the Vegas heads up Alpha. I must make a stop there on my way back from the blackjack tables.

OK, boys & girls, you donut freaks. Krispy Kremes are in Houston, probably because it's the largest, best and most friendly city in Texas. Ahhhhhhh, Krispy Kremes and Blue Bell ice cream, chased by a Shiner Bock. What a life!!!!

OMNI to JAWS and the Texas hoedown planners... I say with that menu we have breakfast.

Now what will we do for lunch???

TravelTooMUch: I have nto seen the T-V version fo that ad yet, but it would make a great one (all it needs is the sound of the angry F-A's knocking down the cockpit door on radio and t-v!)

Breakfast Tacos? Breakfast Tacos are for 2 to 3 a.m. when the bars close and you just can't get that taste of Shiner Bock and cigars out of your system. Mi Tierra at 3 a.m. seems like a great place.

Mi Tierra for breakfast tacos? Hoo-yah!

P.S. Catman: The Krispy Kreme in Vegas is on Spring Mountain Road, between Jones and Rainbow Avenues on the west side of town; there's another outlet in the Texas Station casino in the northwest side of town.

I'm guess I'm glad I took off the day of my departure for this Texas party.

You Texans look like you plan to party all Friday and Saturday night with Breakfast Tacos and Shiner Bock and other stuff. I'll need some sleep to keep up!!1

Hey all you Texans (and those wannabe's)...I won't be in SAT until Saturday, soooooo don't party to hardy Friday evening and have nothing left for Saturday!!!! I see much talk about Shiner Bock...never tried one, I guess I will in June! Actually, my beverage of choice when celebrating.....a shot of chilled Cuervo Gold (no salt, no lime) with a Diet Pepsi to wash it down!

Traveltoomuch: Sounds like something we call a Black Bull here (i.e. cola and tequila with lime). Used to drink them all the time. Now I've sworn off colas

It's nice that this OMNI Donut posting prompted a decent response.

I'm writing as I'm radio station surfing on my Walkman and this particular DUnkin Donuts commerical played on four different stations within ten minutes.

And one line that particularly bugged me: After to co-pilot saying he wished the passengers could see them now stuffing their face (on dunkin donuts and coffee) The Pilot saying -- and this is a quote -- "Those poor slobs in Coach will be too sick to do anything about it."

If the "poor slob" coach passengers can't do anything the starving F-A's would!!!

And again, Krispie Kreames are fresher!!
