Upcoming strikes - rebooking q's
Hi guys
It looks like the international cabin crew will be on strike on the 5th, 7th/8th, 10th/11th and 13th/14th. Unfortunately I've got a total of 5 flights booked on those days, does anyone know how NZ handles the rebookings? Will they simply put me on the next available flight, or is it possible to take another carrier (eg QF or Thai trans tasmin and Korean AKL-NAN)? Thanks in advance for any info
Cheers, Zac
P.S. I'm looking forward to getting away from this bloody winter

Hi Zaco - bad luck!
Trans-Tasman and Pacific Island flights operated by 737 equipment should be free from disruption, as they are operated by our shorthaul cabin crew.
I'll let you know the latest as soon as we get the information.

Hi airnzboy
thanks for that info, it's not so bad then
. The only flights I'm on that aren't on 737s are NZ50 AKL-NAN on the 11th (and I can easily change that to NZ 66 the morning of the 12th) and NZ 50 NAN - LAX on the 13th (and there are worse places to be stuck than Fiji
).
Cheers, Zac

Hi airnzboy,
what kind of a pickle are we in? We're flying from HNL (3 flights/week), then the following day to SYD on the early a.m. flight (I think it's a 767)? These are two separate award tix from UA Mileage Plus, so I'm assuming we'll be at the very bottom of NZ's priority for protection on some other airline, right? What concerns me the most is how few flights there are between HNL and AKL. We have a conference to attend in SYD, so I fervently hope that they will be able to get us there on time...

More than ever for this post I must stress that I am not an official voice for the company and the following information constitutes an informed opinion only.
On 21st January Air NZ received notice that members of FARSA employed by Air NZ propose to enter a 24 hour strike on Wednesday 5th February followed by 48 hour strikes on the following days in February: Friday 7th & Saturday 8th, Monday 10th & Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th & Friday 14th.
Contingency planning is in progress - can't answer specific questions regarding endorsing tickets, accomodation, etc. However it seems approximately 60% of international services will be affected if the strikes go ahead. Will post more information as it comes to hand.

These lazy union bludgers will deserve everything they get when NZ goes the way of Ansett and they all line up to collect the dole. Watch the *******s squeal when that happens. I'll bet pissing off the traveller will seem like a REAL good idea then.

These Air NZ cabin droids are real rocket scientists. When your employer has their back to the wall and only survives by the grace of the taxpayer, why not go on strike to further alienate the consumer?

You're right! - You don't turn a company around by going on strike... But most of the unions around doesn't consider that element. As long as they get what they demand (at least for the time the company is still around)who cares of what happens in a year or two... If a collaps of the company does happen, they will, as your predict, be squealing - very loudyly - of the bad management performace of the company...
Ohhh well... I have contingency solutions prepared, should anything happen!

Ok, here's the latest news I heard from a CSR at NZ (airnzboy, correct me if I'm wrong):
The strike will affect only the AKL-LAX route (presumably both ways). So, HNL-AKL, AKL-trans-Tasman, AKL-NAN, etc. should be unaffected. I hope this is correct. The nice CSR I spoke with actually put me on hold to go check the relevant email he got from somebody in NZ management.
