Change Fee

I was scheduled to fly YYC-YEG yesterday morning. While walking from parking, I checkked the monitor, and my flight was listed as "on-time". Kiosk spits out b/p for later flight, centre seat. Even ITN at midnight prior allowed me to book a seat. Seat map shows four allocated. I was suspecting cancellation, but 45 minutes prior, flight was still listed.

I ask agent at kiosk, and she says flight must have been cancelled. Proceed to gate on her advice to get changed to earlier flight, and the agent has the nerve to say that I need to pay change fee. I explain my plight, and that if they would have contacted me, I would have preferred the earlier flight. I loose argument, and watch as 13 people board the F28 flight. What was her problem.

I agree with Change fees for earlier stand-by, but when airline cancells, and does not give pax the choice, then this is just plain arrogant. Way to go, AC.

I don't understand why the agent didn't allow you to standby for the earlier flight. The new policy dis-allowing standby on L/Q fares doesn't come into effect until Sept 17. You should have asked for the supervisor.

At 05:50, there is no staff at the airport, one lonely agent, who is more interested in in getting the 06:00 flight out on time. And to add insult to injury, since this ticket was purchased prior to the recent predatory pricing on this route, it would have been $145 + GST.

By the time I would have located the supervisor, this ***ch would would have closed the flight. I have come to learn, when it comes to front-line AC staff, to bite my tounge.

What's the new stand-by policy for L-Q fares? Are they going to no longer allow same day stand-by? Where can I get the details on this one?

I stood by at YEG and got on this past FRI afternoon. Not a word - kiosk accepted standby request, BP issued 30 mins prior to departure on fairly open flight. I didn't make any inquiries re: policy changes as we shouldn't be doing this sort of educating.
