Randy's take on American AAdvantage and TWA Aviators Changes
When the phone rings at 10:12 p.m. at home on a Sunday night, I know there's something going on. Yes it was a reporter for background information on the rumored buyout of TWA by none other than American Airlines. Surprising? Not really. Done deal? Not really. Good for the industry? Not really. Good for American AAdvantage frequent flyers? Not really. Good for TWA Aviators members? Not really.
Let's take this is parts.
Generally I don't think this is a done deal. To me it reads as if American is still miffed that United has a chance to put too much difference between them and American Airlines with the proposed US Airways deal still up in the air. But given a new administration and an extended deadline until April, there's too much risk to guess wrong.

My 2 cents: TWA probably needed to be "saved," as it has been on life support for all this time. But AA (or UA or DL) is too big to do it without raising competitive concerns. AA has a better case for swallowing TW than UA has for merging with US, but bigger is not better for consumers.

Yea Doc, it was a banner day for me. Gordon pretty much agrees with me regarding these mergers and Don Carty of American finally comes out and confirms what I've been saying for the last 10 days - that American will honor and protect all your TWA miles. It's good to see that these guys are behind me in these issues. HA!
