When the phone rings at 10:12 p.m. at home on a Sunday night, I know there's something going on. Yes it was a reporter for background information on the rumored buyout of TWA by none other than American Airlines. Surprising? Not really. Done deal? Not really. Good for the industry? Not really. Good for American AAdvantage frequent flyers? Not really. Good for TWA Aviators members? Not really.

Let's take this is parts.

Generally I don't think this is a done deal. To me it reads as if American is still miffed that United has a chance to put too much difference between them and American Airlines with the proposed US Airways deal still up in the air. But given a new administration and an extended deadline until April, there's too much risk to guess wrong.
