Our trip to TG London CTO

Apologies for the new thread, but I wanted to point the 93 people who sent me emails last night, asking me to pick up tix, directly to this.

I just went to the TG CTO in London. There were about 6 hopefuls there but Allan Offerman, Assistant Manager, Passenger Services, told us (in a very nice way) that they would not be able to honour the bookings. We were given the following letter:

24th April 2003

Dear Passengers,

On 23rd April 2003, the prices shown on Thai Airways International's website for flights on the London to Bangkok route contained an error. All fares quoted for all the applicable classes showed a zero fare.

Although you have sought to make a booking, I regret to inform you that the nature of this unfortunate but obvious mistake was such that Thai Airways International is unable to issue you with tickets on the basis that no fare is to be paid. The airline would, of course, be pleased to accept bookings on the basis of its usual applicable fares.

I sincerely apologise on the behalf of Thai Airways International for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Yours faithfully,

Kriangkrai Manomaiphan
General Manager,

Thanks for the update. Too bad, but entirely reasonable imo.

Bozos. What a dopey thing to type.

300,000 folks have just cancelled TG tickets due to SARS they admit themselves. Here was a great avenue to offer the flights for something lowball "as a gesture of good faith" etc. Their planes out flying with terribly light loads right now, and for the forseeable future.

Only a small % of FT'ers would have taken them up I guess, but at say $1000 RT (subject to space being available) some folks here I am sure would still have gone, and TG would have got a lot of nice PR from it.

Thank you very much for that prompt "trip report" - it has saved me a trek across town today.

I've just got off the phone to reservations where a very harrassed-sounding agent was quick to assure me that my credit card would not be charged for the taxes and that I need do nothing more about the booking. I hope that's reliable - wouldn't like to have to take up cudgels later.

Incidentally, I noticed that their reservations number is 0870 60 60 911. I wonder how long that's been like that and whether it's been deliberately left in place.

Interestingly, my 2 reservations still show on checkmytrip, with seat assignments 2K and 2A!

And mine are still on TG's website, although I can't get into checkmytrip at the moment.

My reservations are still there. My question remains.

What if I fly into LHR to pick up the tickets on saturday? TG has not informed me personally. Will TG atleast pay for my LHR trip since I thought I had a valid booking?

I don't see why they should -- and don't expect that they would.

Just got the email myself...I thinkit's all pretty funny, to be honest.

I feel a bit sorry for the ticket office, who are going to have one hell of a bad day today.

It was so obviously a mistake that, whilst I did have delusions of drinks at the Bamboo Bar over the Bank Holiday weekend, I really hope these threads don't run into 'class action lawsuit' territory.
