Hotels: do you get the points if you don't show up?

Hotels: do you get the points if you don't show up?
With airlines, no show = no miles, even if you give up the ticket.
WIth hotels, do you get points without the stay?
WIth hotels, do you get points without the stay?

With Hilton HHonors, I have received credit for no-shows that were guaranteed and charged to my credit card. I believe others have been able to do that also.

I *think* the rules (and I can't speak for all programs) are that you get points for the $ spent but you aren't supposed to get stay credit. Of course, some hotels mispost and you do get the stay credit.

I know I once forgot to cancel a reservation from a Starwood Hotel (ended up staying with Hilton) and they charged me for the one night and I received points for the no show.
