I am an American. I do not hyphenate or otherwise limit my pride in being an American. I am American 100% and proud of it.
I have travelled internationally on an extensive basis, even living overseas several times. I know that my country is not perfect, but I choose to say I am American.

I'm proud to be an AMERICAN. No freakin' hyphenation.
I happen to be Indian by ethnicity, but to call myself an "Indian-American" would imply that I had some citizenship or other ties to India (which I do not, other than the fact that my ancestors were born there).
- Sameer
P.S. One of the most offensive (not intentionally, I'm sure) questions I get asked is "What's your nationality?". Considering that I'm serving in the armed forces of the UNITED STATES, I would think my answer is perfectly clear: "American. And yours?"

American. That's all. Though not of American Indian or British background, my family came here before 1776. Any ties to other lands have long since faded.
If you absolutely insist on some sort of hyphenation, I guess "North-American" would work.
Edited to add: "Why aren't we discussing this in OMNI?"

AMERICAN, and proud to advertise it as well. Never obnoxious, always respectful, but proud of my country and its citizens, wherever they were born!
I'm not afraid to have two stickers on my rollaboard.
1. Old Glory
2. "Al Gore Is A Risky Scheme"
Look for me in an airport near you!

to continue, i don't like the term "american" to be applied to us citizens. when asked in europe for example if i'm an american, i usually respond that i'm from the us. there are a big bunch of people from north and south america that are americans. .... edit to add... general usage is that american is defined as citizens of the us and citizens of other countries of the new world say their country.

World citizen(with all that that implies) but as an immigrant proud to have choosen to hold a US passport because of the ideals that this great country was founded on and the dedication/sacrifice of its population to try and acheive those ideals.
