Fares by destination city
On the Yahoo! Travel page, there's a section to browse for travel info (material provided by Lonely Planet). If you select a particular city, sometimes it lets you look at Best Fares to that city from an extensive list of US departure points.
Is anyone familiar with the search engine that powers this? I'm hoping there's an easier way to access this kind of search without clicking through all the links on Yahoo! Travel.

Yahoo travel is porting travelocity, and it looks like the data presented in that fare roundup is similar to that on the travelocity dream maps (also available through yahoo). Since the dream maps are always round trip searches, and the fares shown *usually* are the same in both directions, you could use dream maps.
If your destination city is covered by the "best fares" feature of www.air-fare.com, you could also look there.

I like this "fares by destination" method because I can see if it's significantly cheaper to fly out of a certain airport (and then maybe get a cheap flight to that particular airport).

Izzik - had I seen any international destinations on the yahoo page I woulndn't have said that. What international dests do you reference? I found the "best fares" button greyed out on such common ones as London, so I figured this was a domestic tool.

fholt - I don't think you are looking at the right place. The page for London, has a best fares link that works, although it's inexplicably linked to LGW.
A quick look at the URL, and experimentation, shows that you can simply edit the last three characters with the airport code of your choice:
http://search.travel.yahoo.com/search/best_fares?n=300&s=deptcity&str_ intl=us&txt_tpl=iy&txt_arrcode=LHR
(The LHR at the end, you can change to whatever airport code you want.)
izzik - Here is another URL hack that will help you even more. You can change the list to be sorted by price instead of departure city:
http://search.travel.yahoo.com/search/best_fares?n=300&s=price&str _intl=us&txt_tpl=iy&txt_arrcode=LHR
(In this URL, the s=destcity [sort by destination city], has been replaced by s=price [sort by price].)

Indeed - I must have been looking in the wrong place, I see it now.
Good tip on parsing the URL, I see that there are many international dests available this way, and it satisfies the OP's quset to reduce clicks.
I see that you can also use the common "multi-airports, one metro area" designators, such as "LON" to get "London All Area" without having to enumerate each 3 letter airport code.

Actually i didn't do very good job at explaining what i was asking..
I would like to select a city, and see prices for fares to this city from all the given cities in a region & less than a certain amount of money. Something like dream maps, but where you put in your destination and prices from different origins are displayed.
Does this make more more sense?

use this from Travelocity
use this link to get "best fares" to XXX. Not all airports are supported. http://search.travel.yahoo.com/bin/s...intl=us&dc=CVG

As for substituting 'deptcity' with 'price', was that a guess?
