coverting AmericanExpress points into miles for AA or UAL
How can I possibly convert coverting AmericanExpress points into miles for AA or United? Thank you.

Another option (that I've used) is to convert MR points to US miles. You can then redeem US miles for travel on UA. However, doing so does limit your award choices. I don't think that you can redeem for upgrades or Star Alliance awards.

To get AA (with significant devaluation) you'd have to go:
Amex --> Hilton --> AA or, for better conversion:
Amex --> Hawaiian --> Hilton --> AA
Amex --> CO --> Amtrak --> UA --> Diners --> AA

AMEX---Starwood---AA
Amex to Starwood takes a smaller hit, maybe 10%.
Also, check if there are OneWorld partner you can transfer amex to.

I stand corrected about the transfer rate.

They're all wrong.
In order to "covert" AmEx points, you have to take them to Jimmy "The Fish"'s points parlor down the street, knock on the back door of the Flying Pig Saloon 3 times and say "The Centurion sent me"

Another alternative is to use Amex points to obtain Marriott Vacation Packages. These packages require up to 270 Marriott points which would yield 7 nites at any Marriott worldwide plus 120K miles at almost any major airline.

There is no way to transfer Amex Rewards to AA or UA without major devaluation of your points.
But there is an alternative way to approach this situation. First, open a Delta Skymiles Account and a Mexicana Airlines Frecuenta account. Second, accumulate enough points on Amex for a desired reward. Then call Delta Skymiles and/or Mexicana Airlines and arranged for a reward reservation. Finally transfer the Amex miles to the desired airline Delta or Mexicana. Note Delta's agreement with United ends soon, so act quickly. Good Luck!!!!1

Centurion,
I haved use Marriott travel award packages twice and think that they offer good value. This is especially true if you are a Marriott devotee, which I am.
I accrued 240K miles with AA which I used toward 2 FC RT to New Zealand on Cathay.
