A ton, actually. But I don't feel all that bad about, say, People Express or Western or stuff like that. Nothing against them, I just don't feel bad I missed out.

Nope, terenz was correct. Trans Texas Airlines (often referred to by those that flew them as Tree Top Airlines, with some justification) morphed into Texas International and eventually bought the remnants of Continental in the early '80s, assuming the latter's name in the process.
I believe Herb Kelleher started Southwest from scratch as an intrastate Texas airline in the early '70s.
