United screwed up mileage reservation: reasonable compensation?

United screwed up an award reservation I was holding in first class. After speaking with several people at the 1K office in Dearborn, they all confirmed the same info. (I have names and dates documented, plus the fax with the date of the changes) Now, United is unable to honor the original reservation due to no inventory in first class. What type of compensation would you request to make up for this error?

As this thread specifically applies to an United issue, it is both more likely to be responded to, and also appropriate, for it to be in that board. Hence it will be transferred to the UA board.
