AT&T cust. get 5,000 miles for doing NOTHING!

I haven't seen any long distance offer quite like this posted before. I received a letter from AT&T offering new or CURRENT customers 5,000 OnePass bonus miles to sign up for the AT&T / Onepass program by 8/31/01. That's right, no switching required! I imagine there are FT'ers out there who have stayed with dependable old AT&T through all of the enticing MCI and Sprint mileage offers. Now you get a reward for your loyalty.

I almost tossed the letter before I realized it had the new twist. Here's the text(italics are mine, bold is in the original):

Dear Mr. xxxxxx,

Because you are a valued OnePass member, Continental Airlines and AT&T would like to remind you that - effective July 1, 2001 - the only way to earn OnePass miles for your long distance service is by signing up for the AT&T / OnePass program.

Receive 5,000 OnePass bonus miles just for joining!
Whether you are currently an AT&T customer or ready to become one, you need to act now to take advantage of this limited-time offer: Receive 5,000 OnePass bonus miles when you sign up for the AT&T / OnePass program before August 15, 2001. You'll receive 1,000 bonus miles within six to eight weeks of signing up. Plus, receive am additional 1,000 miles each month for the next four months -- for a total of 5,000 bonus miles.*

Earn even more OnePass miles!
In addition to the sign-up bonus members of the AT&T / Onepass program earn five miles for every dollar spent on qualifying AT&T services.** Plus, OnePass miles don't expire, so you can take rewards travel when it's convenient for you. To sign up with AT&T Residential Long Distance Service and/or start earning your OnePass bonus miles, call 1-800-255-4600, ext. 11125. To ensure you receive your bonus miles, please enter the extension code.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Rick Wagner
Director, Partner Marketing
Continental Airlines

Melissa Schmitt
Director, Partner Marketing
AT&T

P.S. Hurry! to sign up for this program and start earning your OnePass bonus miles, just call 1-800-255-4600, ext. 11125.

* You must remain a member of the AT&T / OnePass program and an AT&T Residential Long Distance customer to receive your bonus miles.

** Qualifying AT&T Services include domestic and international residential AT&T Long Distance, AT&T Local Service charges, AT&T Local/Regional Toll calls and charges, monthly recurring charges, and service charges for qualifying AT&T Services after the application of all applicable credits and discounts. Enrollment in the AT&T / OnePass program may take up to 30 days. Mileage postings should then appear on your OnePass statement six to eight weeks thereafter. All terms and conditions of the AT&T / OnePass and Continental Airlines OnePass programs apply.

I posted this in MilesBuzz rather than the CO or AT&T forums because it may be of interest to any current AT&T customer, even those who normally don't use OnePass or switch phone companies. The CO miles earned can be kept in OnePass or transferred to Hilton if CO is not one of your programs.

AT&T gives nothing away for nothing. Are you sure there isn't a monthly fee hiding somewhere in the fine print, or in the definition of the Onepass program?

One can never be 100% sure of anything.

I figured FT'ers would be skeptical, so I typed in the entire offer letter including ALL the fine print.

I registered for OnePAss Miles last November, and I was already an ATT long distance subscriber, and with invoices of about $50 a month + bonus miles that came from time to time, I got about 9000 miles in about 6 months. Nothing additional was charged to me for that, ATT is already quite expensive anyway.

dhacker,
Thanks for the post! I had one of my phone lines with AT&T already. It was quite easy to call the number and sign up with the OnePass/AT&T promo. It was a completely automated registration and only took about 2 minutes.

Well, I tried many times and after selecting the extention and confirming my telephone number, the call met with a busy tone! I also tried to get in touch with an operator but after holding the darn phone (no speaker) for 20 minutes, I quit..

I put my phone on speaker and waited the 20 minutes. I currently have an AT&T plan for five cents a minute at night and nine cents a minute during the day with no monthly minimum or monthly fee. The CSR signed me up for the CO miles and said, before I even asked, that I would keep my current plan. That beats the heck out of the 1 point per dollar I'm currently getting with Starwood and certainly is better than those plans that charge $5.95 a month just cuz.

I got the same letter and called this morning. I found out that I have already signed up in the past - since I rarely fly CO anymore, my statements are few and far between. The kicker was when the system told me I have been enrolled in the program since October 1909!!!!!

Man, am I waiting for all the miles.

Not to sound cynical, but I have (was) an AT&T customer for over 9 years. Was promised miles for Marriott (never received, program cancelled)and promised miles for SPG (never received after 8 faxes, 3 letters, and 5 phone calls). To date, how many miles have I ever actually received from AT&T? ZERO! Nada, nothing, zilch.

After nine years, I cancelled my long distance, internet, and wireless accounts with them last month. Wasn't worth the hassle; wasn't worth the expense. I know that they promise these things; but when you actually go to get them it seems very difficult if not downright impossible.

30 minutes on hold. offered 7cents weekdays and 5cents weekends + 4.95monthly fee. Presently get 7cents anytime + no fee with Sprint(cell phone tie-in). Not worth changing.

I got 5K with AT&T with the same deal they offered you. I got 2.5K after the first invoice and another 2.5K after the sixth invoice.

For me the paying the monthly fee (you have to pay USF and other fees with Sprint anyway) for 6 months to get 5K.
