747SP at PHX
Saw a 747SP parked on the ramp to the west of Terminal 2 at PHX late this afternoon. Hadn't seen one in years. Went past quickly in the rental car shuttle bus and wasn't able to read any of the markings. Is it a regular visitor to PHX?

There weren't many SPs made and few are still in service (very high fuel cost per ASM). Last time I checked all 747SPs were non-airline (charter or private jet). Most have reached end of life for the chassis; maybe it was in transit to the airliner graveyard south of PHX?

The 747SP VP-BAT belongs to the Qatar Amiri flight. Supposedly someone in the royal family has been hospitalized in Phoenix for a while. The SP stays in PHX, then about once a month heads to Europe (most often EGLL) for a day or two before returning to PHX.
