Hotel Modera in PDX

This is a new boutique hotel that opened recently and according to Tripadvisor it is rated #4 among the top properties in Portland. I will try it for a couple of nights and for those who have stayed here or are from Portland, could you please advise about the location of this property? Is it safe to walk around at night? Are there are lot of restaurants in the vicinity? It is one 525 SW Clay St. in downtown. Thanks.

It is a fairly safe area of downtown. Close to Portland State University. I used to work evenings there back when it was "The Portland Inn". I would usually get off work between 10pm and 2 am and never had a problem or felt unsafe. I walked in the area at night all the time. I still would feel comfortable doing it. Have a nice stay at the hotel.

We've just returned from a stay at the Modera. We found the area to be safe with a good variety of restaurants within walking distance, though with two small children we were not out after 9pm.

Modera is definitely in a safe area. Downtown Portland is walkable, plus with public transport location is just fine. I think they are trying hard to provide a nice experience at a reasonable price. They used to have a pretty good breakfast included with the rate, but I think they've just opened a restaurant and deep-sixed the brekkie. All in all, I think it is a pleasant place -- been there 3 or 4 times and will go back, especially when "deals" are available.

Good area, and near the Portland Streetcar.

So I recommend using the streetcar to also access the Pear District and go over to the Northwest area as they also have alot of restaurants, wine bars and breweries. Most of downtown Portland is easily walkable and safe. Areas that start getting a little dicey are further north near China Town.

Depending on when your here you also have a chance to check out the Farmers Market near PSU which is fun too, alot of fresh breads, fruits, etc. Another one to check out is the Hotel Vintage Plaza, its further North than that area, but also pretty cool property.
