DIA Immigration/Security

On a normal Saturday, is one hour enough time to clear Customs/Immigration, TSA and recheck of a bag from an Int'l to domestic flight, and catch that same flight?

Arrival time: approx. 15:55
Departure: approx. 17:10

All Star Alliance flights (LH to UA).

i have no clue

I was at a dinner with one of the muckety-mucks from DEN and that was one of the questions. My memory was that DEN doesn't have large issues with customs except when the BA and LH land nose to nose on Saturday. They want to expand Concourse A to accept more international flights and expand customs accordingly. The issue is our federal government which takes forever to do even the most common sense items. Short answer, hope for under an hour, expect 2.

Sounds tight to me. I've never connected from an international flight, but Customs/Immigration dumps you back out into the main terminal. I'm pretty sure that you have to go through security in the main terminal (in other words, there isn't a special line for those coming from customs). On a Saturday, lines *shouldn't* be long, but it's not a super short trip to walk from your incoming flight to customs, go through customs, then walk to security, get through security, and take the train back to the concourse your connecting flight is leaving from.

If there's another flight after the one you want to book, I might risk it. If your connection is the last flight of the day, I probably wouldn't unless you're willing to spend the night in Denver if you misconnect.

Thanks. I emailed the folks at the DIA website, and got a fairly quick response encouraging me to get the airline to book me on a later flight. I'd do standby, but I'd hate to have all later flights be booked solid and end up having to purchase a last minute hotel room in Denver (while watching my first night in Vegas get billed). I'll see if LH can book me on a later flight; I'm sure that UA has more than one evening flight to LAS.

On that note, would the airline put me up in a hotel if I missed the connection due to an unrealistically short connection time? I'm thinking not.

You'll probably need more time

I've cleared customs in DEN on a couple of occassions. I've found that customs itself to be reasonably fast compared to other airports, but it is customs and it processing times can vary greatly. That said, even *G priority tagged, I've found myself waiting an extremely long time for luggage (+20 minutes). Luggage at DEN always seems to be slow.

My estimate is that you'll need about 30-40 minutes to get through customs. DIA is a big airport, and by the time you add in transit time through the terminals, usually a long runway taxi after landing, I'm not sure that you would make it.

That said, there are a fair amount of non-stops between DEN & LAS; although not all on UA (Frontier, Southwest, etc.) So if you miss your flight, LH/UA will be able to find a way to get you there. If I recall correctly, the LH flight gets in early-mid afternoon, so they shouldn't have a problem finding you a seat somewhere.

I'd recommend getting a later flight and try to standby for earlier.
