PDX traffic advisory
An IKEA is opening up on the road that is effectively PDX's driveway. Traffic problems expected on 7/25 and subsequent weekends.

P.S. Want to take a guess at the portion of vehicles coming to IKEA with Washington tags, coming to enjoy the sales tax free shopping?

Not just an IKEA in the PDX area but a new Best Buy and other stores that will form a "big box" shopping mall to snare all those Washingtonians for tax-free shopping just across the Columbia R. I found it interesting that a Tri-Met MAX stop is an easy walk from this soon-to-open mall.

No, it's definitely the IKEA that will bring in the crowds. You can find Best Buy in any mid-size burg these days. IKEAs are few and far between. Tax-free IKEAs are even less common.

Is this the 2nd store in the PNW? I was at the Renton location a few years back and was amazed to see delivery options being offered to eastern WA and ID.

Yes, not counting the BC locations. Going south, the next one is in the SF Bay Area. Going east, there's one in the SLC area.

Coming north on I-205, you could use the Parkrose/Sumner station at the Sandy Blvd exit. That's a pretty decent option even under normal circumstances if someone is just dropping you off. Coming south on I-205 from WA, your best best might simply be to battle the traffic. Coming from downtown, you may as well ride the train the entire way.
