Consolidatd "Luggage Storage at PHX" thread

Is there anywhere to leave luggage for 3 days at PHX? Going to LAS before flying back to LHR and don't want to take golf clubs and extra bags... could not find anything on PHX airport website.

The hotel you stayed at will keep bags for you for a few days. Or if you haven't stayed anywhere in PHX, pick one of the more reliable airport hotels (like the Sheraton Tempe) and a $20 tip to the bell captain should store the luggage for you. Tell them you are checking in a few days from now, if it becomes an issue (it won't). Otherwise, most US airports do not have a left luggage facility.

will be staying at Marroitt Dessert Ridge before Vegas so too far to leave bags and then going back.. I guess they will come to vegas.

Just checked Southwest and it looks okay for multiple bags- anyone know if they interline to BA?

WN does not interline with any airline. But US does, so you would be better off flying US LAS-PHX instead (fares are generally identical).

Landside luggage storage at PHX? Or is this enough time to get rental car and park?

Will be arriving at ~8:00am on a UA flight, and then departing for a quick segment run on US at 10:00am returning on US at ~2pm.

Don't want to schlep the rollaboard if I can avoid.

Any landside places that luggage could be checked for a few hours?

Let me help you something in PHX. If you are transferred different terminal where US Airways is in terminal 4. You need issued the boarding pass from US Airways before you can even checked bags. When you fly out from terminal 2 but, you need hoping in free terminals shuttle from 2 to 4. You will continuation all the way from T-2 to T-4. You will get off either upper level or lower level where arrivals or departs. You can hope in terminal shuttle. Hopefully you will helpful more specific information from PHX. Thanks!

Thanks. I understand I'll need to change terminals, and I intend to have done online check-in for my US flights. But I don't want to check my luggage for the US flights.

From other posters I understand that there is indeed no landside storage of luggage at PHX.

Could you simply fail to grab your bag when you arrive on UA and pick it up later that afternoon from the baggage service office?

That's a good idea. I've also thought of calling my hotel's shuttle, and "discovering" that I have a meeting that requires me to take an onward flight and ask the shuttle driver -- for a nice tip -- to take my suitcase back to the hotel and hold it for my later arrival.

PHX is a major hassel if you need to leave your baggage there. Good luck with it.

Changed question:

I have decided to pick up my rental car after my 8:00 a.m. arriving flight. I will store my rollaboard in the rental car and go park it and then get my US 10:00 a.m. flight.

Is it easy to get from the Hertz rental facility to PHX parking? Is my plan doable, given the timing? (I am Gold with Hertz so shouldn't have to wait long or at all)

I actually did a Hertz-terminal 3 trip yesterday. The one issue I can't comment on is how long it will take you to get through security. Assuming wait times there aren't bad, I think you should be okay if you arrive on time.

As far as the shuttle bus to the rental car facility, it runs fairly frequently (got to the curb just as one was leaving; another was pulling up right behind). It's about a 10-minute ride to the rental car facility. The terminals in PHX are far enough apart that there are dedicated buses for each terminal, which is nice in that you don't have to stop at intervening terminals as you do at some other airports.

The on-terminal parking is $3/hr, but that's probably your best bet given your time frame (there is a lot at each terminal); there are 'economy' lots at the end of the airport that require another shuttle bus trip to get you to the terminal. Given my experience yesterday (also Gold w/Hertz), you should be able to be back at the terminal within a half hour of your departure.

Let's hope your flights arrive/depart on time. You're arriving at terminal 2 on UA, so you simply walk out the front door, cross the first set of traffic and stay in the median/island. Look for the sign for rental cars and/or the light green buses (inter-terminal busses are darker green and will say "Gecko", "Roadrunner", or some other desert animal). Trip from T2 to car rental is ten minutes or less, plus however long it takes you to get the car. Drive back to the airport should be about five minutes.

From this point, you need to choose where you want to park - you can park in the T2 upper lot for a maximum of $8, but you'll have to walk or take the inter-terminal shuttle buses to T4, or you can park in the T4 parking (most convenient and most expensive, at something like $24 per day, not sure of the hourly rate). If the money doesn't mean much, park in T4 and enjoy the convenience. If the almost $20 you might save would be worth a decent dinner or something, park in T2 and cross back over to the median you waited for the bus earlier in the day - this time take the dark green inter-terminal bus to T4 (second stop). The shuttle ride is less than 5 minutes, but you might wait up to ten minutes for a bus to appear.

If you go for T2 parking, you'll want to stay in the right-hand lanes as you enter PHX. If you opt for T4, stay in the left-hand lanes, but prepare to merge right as you pass T3 (you'll need to go up a ramp for T4 in-terminal parking).

Ticketing is on level 2. If you take the inter-terminal bus, you arrive on level 1 and will need to take an elevator up. You should be able to use the US First/*G check-in lines (or use a kiosk if the lines are long and you're short on time). Once you check-in, you can probably use the fast-track security lines with your UA *G status. Not sure where you're flying to, but most western states departures happen out of the A gates, so you'll likely use the A-gate security checkpoint (I want to say it's "D", but I'm probably wrong).

Final note - if you're cutting it close on time and the lines for check-in are bad, consider going up to the gate level (level 3) to check-in - there are kiosks immediately before the security checkpoint for the A gates that are almost always free.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Thanks so much to you both. It sounds like my plan is doable, assuming flights are on-time.

I will have done online check-in so will have my US boarding pass. It's the flight to Prescott, if that tells you which concourse it will (likely) depart from.
