Question DEN security checkpoints: why the stamp on the BP?

At DEN, the ID and BP checkers before security use a little stamp on your BP after they've "verified" everything...at most other airports Ive come across, the checkers simply look at the ID and BP and then wave you through without marking up the BP in anyway...(though when I do think about it, I do remember having my BP marked with pen at security at 1 or 2 places, but I cant remember off the top of my head)...anyways, the point is, whats the significance of the stamp?? It clearly isnt a TSA thing, so does it have any purpose at all???

Thanks,
N674UW

-I wasnt sure if this would be appropriate for here or Travel Safety/Security, since this is a security question but its specific to one airport, feel free to move it if you think its better placed over there mods...thanks!

I don't know, but I do seem to have encountered some of the most serious document checkers at DEN. The elite line was moving really slowly one day because I swear the security person was checking the BP name, the ID name, the ID picture, your face against the picture, the flight number, the flight time the flight date, your citizenship, etc. And I think they have always been serious about marking the BP in some way. So I guess whoever is in charge of security at DIA takes this all very seriously and decided that a stamp is a faster and more official method.

There's a possible correlation between stamping the BP and not having to show it as you go through the metal detector.

In DEN, once they stamp your BP, you can put it and your ID away.

In DFW today, they didn't stamp my BP, and I had to keep it on me to show it to the TSA-er as I went through the metal detector.
