Smile Free Wireless in PDX

From an e-mail list where I lurk:

Nigel Ballard of Personal Telco reports that Portland (Oregon) International
Airport will have free Wi-Fi: Ballard told an audience at a meeting of the
community wireless group this evening that the Port of Portland will turn on
25 access points by Oct. 1 to offer free service at gates and check-in
areas. They're committed to covering the cost of operation for the first
year, and then re-evaluating whether fees would be added. Ballard is part of
the Portland Telecommunications Steering Committee, and an active community
networker and commercial infrastructure builder.

You can get free WiFi now!

From gate C4, you can easily pickup the signal coming out of the AS Boardroom. There is no charge to link up.

...and if you hang upside down in just the right place outside the Red Carpet Club you can get T-Mobile...

Three cheers to PDX for finally getting something right. This is going to go a long way to keeping things moving for vendors. I always cut AS flights closer than UA flights 'cause I don't have wireless access or a Board Room membership (and I hadn't considered finding that one spot at gate C4 )
