So... We getting that 3rd Runway?

"A state agency has finally given the Port of Seattle a vital permit in its bid to build a third runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport...

But the board ordered that 16 conditions be met before the Port can apply for a permit from the federal Army Corps of Engineers that would give the final go-ahead... The 16 conditions are meant to mitigate impacts to wetlands on the site and three nearby creeks..."

In a really strange way, I wouldn't mind if this failed if it got us a second airport, something that would fly as far as DEN, PHX, SLC and be at PAE or somewhere on the Eastside.

We need the third runway badly.

As for an airport on the Eastside - where is there enough land unless it is put on the Eastern Washington side of the mountains?

I would actually love it if Paine Field was turned into a major airport (for my preferred airlines). It'd save me at least 1 1/2 hours driving.

About 10 years ago there was a list of sites for a new airport to supplement SEA, and Paine field was one of them. However, Boeing pretty much said "Lay off", and the state complied.

How about expanding Bellingham?

Even better! Save me 3 hours driving r/t and I-5 traffic to boot! Too much to dream for I guess. BLI could concievably capture a lot of Canadian traffic. Not sure if the runway can be extended anymore.

I like PAE as well, there was some push from some group near Auburn to create a second Regional airport on the East side, but I guess I don't get it. I think PAE is the easiest to get to for anybody equal to or North of 520 from both sides of the lake. Plus it would nicely serve Everett etc...

And, the tracks run right from Downtown to PAE (up the side of Boeing) un-interrupted which if thought was put into it, would make a Nice PAE-EXpress (ala, Heathrow Express) thing. Of course, I guess I wouldn't mind one of our umpteen transportaiton systems that we are apparently building to actually get TO the airport (SEATAC) instead of 1/2 mile or 1 mile short of it.

Ok, I should stop dreaming now...

Since we're dreaming... I wouldn't mind an airport in the Green Lake/ U-District area!

Actually, there already is an airport there (in Marymoor Park).

It's a remote control airport, quite a bit of fun to watch.

Back to topic, does anybody have the name or website of that "Alternate Airport" group?

I think we all ought to vote for the new location via the American Idol style. The county with the most Computer War Dialin' geeks wins!
