They do sometimes close the Cottonwood Canyon roads for avalanche control (Brighton is in Big Cottonwood Canyon). For real-time updates, follow this account on Twitter:

Little Cottonwood Canyon already closed according to them.
ETA: We ended up doing Hill Aerospace Museum, then onto Nordic Valley outside of Ogden. Smaller ski resort but much easier drive given the weather conditions. Worked out great.
