Safe to get things shipped to a hotel?
So I'm planning to go on a short trip next weekend. I'm wondering if it's safe to get something shipped to my hotel room. I'm afraid I might not get it in time so that's why I'm thinking of calling a hotel and asking if it's ok for me to get something shipped to my hotel room. If they're ok with that, would it be recommended or that in general it's not safe to do so because someone can steal the item?

I've never had any problem getting things shipped to a hotel. Never asked for permission before. Only 2 things I can think of to be aware of:
1. Some hotels charge for them to receive shipments for you, no matter how small. It's mostly full-service places - full Marriotts, Hiltons, and the like. I've never paid a dime (other than an optional gratuity for room delivery) at Hampton Inn, Courtyard, etc.
2. Be aware of any possible delays in your delivery. I've almost had the experience of missing my shipment due to customs - the package has a 1 day delay to clear customs, but I'm already on to the next city.

Go with tracked shipping service (i.e. Fedex, UPS, etc.). Label the package with "Guest: <your name> - Arrival Date: mm/dd/yy" and care of the hotel. It will not be a problem. I've done this often.
