I love new website changes.
It ALWAYS means things get lost, mangled and harder to understand.
What on earth is a 73H .. the website no longer bothers to tell anyone?
There are 2 different 737 800s - WHICH one is a 738?
When you mouse hover these days you get no more info than that shown above
.

73Y and 73H denotes winglets or not, so as a passenger I wouldn't care which really.
738 denotes 737-800, with no indication of which type beyond that.
What you see is classic since there was only 1 737-800 for a number of years. Many airlines have this kind of nomenclature for the different aircraft as they evolve over time.

WINGLETS???????!!!
I agree who cares. What goose added that useless data to the new data?!
Why on earth show that nonsense on any airline booking site?
All I want to do is choose the 800 with the new Biz class, so I can book row 3.
Does anyone know what the Virgin geniuses now show those as on booking site?

I believe it's what's in SABRE.
As posted, a 738 may or may not have winglets while a 73H will have winglets.
FWIW, Qantas have been referring to their 737-838's as 73H aircraft since VH-VXA entered their fleet 12 years ago. (http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/pl...37ng-29551.htm)

In the case of VA, I believe they are using 738 and 73H to denote internal configuration differences, rather than the presence of winglets.

Yes I think you are right, it has nothing to do with winglets per-se. Absolutely no passenger cares. (Except Qantas ones it seems, and they'll be back to 727s soon, the way they are going.!)
On the booking site when I get a ton of options and I want to be on the Biz class seat 737-800 with perspex barrier, how does Virgin show that on their booking site?

none of the 738/73H's operated with VH registrations have the PE configuration - they are generally registered ZK- (NZ) and used on trans tasman routes.
ALL VA domestic 737 flights have the eight specific business class seats (Even the 73G's).

ALL domestic 737s now have business class. The only ones that don't are operated by Virgin Australia NZ and mainly do Trans Tasman and some pacific island routes.

So what seats do these "73H" domestic planes have up front?
If the same seats as "738" why differentiate them as they do here?

I'll repeat and add more, just to make sure.
VA do not operate the pe configuration within Australia, only trans-tasman.
73H/738(/73G) makes no difference in relation to business class seating.

As far as you are concerned the seating in business is identical.
