nice, will be good if I get Plat.

I wonder if because they have previously comped me to Gold (last year) that makes me ineligible?

Apparently not. But get in NOW apparently it's a limited time offer.

I have applied. We will see what the outcome is.
If the status match is granted in the way I would expect it, I might give up Star Alliance and focus on Skyteam and Virgin Australia's "new little alliance".

Do you think they will status match Malaysia Airlines Enrich?

When does this promotion end?

I am Skyteam Elite+ and currently Velocity Silver...I filled it out within an hour of the announcement being made and hope they honor it!
I have 2 flights with VAustralia already booked and coming up soon, so will be worth my while if I make Gold and then perhaps Plat in the future.
As many of Skyteam's airlines don't do the routes I need, this is really clever marketing by Virgin, and I would def bring all my business to them.

No fixed date. I get the impression it ends when they reach their quota though so get in NOW if you are tempted.

I would assume from all the crashes and bounce back emails today...they won't be far off not accepting anymore!

Damn. I'm just a *little* bit off being gold on United. I wonder if it's worth getting status-matched to Silver, or waiting around to see whether the status match is still in operation when I get to Gold.

I reckon it depends on when you expect to get Gold. The longer you wait, the higher the risk. If I were in your situation I would use the following rule of thumb:
Up to 2 weeks for Gold: wait
More than 4 weeks for Gold: don't wait
Between these two dates, I would think a bit longer about the risk I'd be willing to take.
(Note: I have no specific information about the duration of this promotion. I am just thinking of previous status match offers with other airlines I observed.)

Yeah, it's not gonna be the next couple of weeks, so I decided to email 'em to get Silver, and to politely ask if maybe they'd consider giving me Gold instead. Can't hurt to ask!

Dear VA rep, please remember to come and post here as there are quite a few of us who, for a number of reasons, do not ever go across to AFF...
