Connecting from Emirates to V Australia

Connecting from Emirates to V Australia
I was wondering if anybody had any experience connecting on an Emirates flight from AKL-SYD to a V Australia flight from SYD-LAX. The Emirates flight is code-shared with V Australia. When checking in at the Emirates counter at AKL, do you also get boarding passes for the SYD-LAX leg? Or would one need to obtain boarding passes for the V Australia portion once getting into SYD? I'm worried as there is only 1 hour and 40 minutes between flights and a delay can impact getting on to the flight! Sorry for the stupid questions but any information is appreciated!
