Summer 22 Operational update

The below has been posted out by VS Trade today, finally confirming the planned summer operations. There are a few updates to aircraft types and also frequencies:

VSBulletin: 17 Feb 2022 | Summer 2022 Operational update

We want to let you know that, as customer demand returns, we’re making some adjustments to flying schedules for the summer season to optimise our network.

Following the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and changing travel restrictions, we now have greater levels of certainty to make changes to our flying programme from March 2022 onwards.

This means we’ll be altering service frequencies on certain routes, including Seattle, Washington, Delhi and Tel Aviv from London Heathrow and Atlanta and Islamabad from Manchester, alongside some aircraft type changes, which will mean our award-winning Airbus A350-1000 will be in service on routes including Heathrow-Delhi and Orlando from Manchester and Heathrow.

We have taken the difficult decision to extend the temporary suspension of all passenger services between London Heathrow and Hong Kong schedule until 14 March 2022, as we work with authorities to overcome current operational challenges on this route.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the schedule changes. For the majority of customers whose flights are cancelled, they will be automatically booked on to an alternative Virgin Atlantic service on the same day. If there is no alternative service.

If we have to re-time flights, wherever possible this time change will be kept to a minimum, but we recognise that these changes may not suit everyone. Our flexible booking policy allows customers to further amend their flights, should they wish, with no change fees, all the way until 31 December 2023. If the new departure time is over three hours’ difference to the original departure time, then customers can also request a refund.

Bookings affected by these changes will be updated on Saturday 19 February 2022.

During Summer 22, we plan to operate the following schedule, subject to late changes

Great update RAPC, we've been waiting so long for this. Now need to check if our SFO & LAX flights in April are affected.

Thanks,

Best news ever. Thanks, RAPC. Can I ask where this is posted? I generally look for the operational updates on vaflightstore.com, but that’s not posted as of yet. Love to know where they post this stuff first.

**Edit: Looking closer, it looks like we’l figure out what days have operating flights this Saturday.

Thanks RAPC!

Fingers crossed outbound from IAD on Wednesday and back on a Tuesday still holds. At least then I'll only have to worry about seat assignments and not whether I change dates or airlines!

Very selfishly, I’m on Saturdays out and back for DC, so similar to you in hoping they stick to what is currently showing.

Just got an email from virgin that basically says the same, just without the flight details, for our SFO flight in April. Says to watch over the weekend for the changes. Looks like we will be losing the A350 which is a shame

We want to let you know that we're making some changes to our flying schedule which affects your upcoming Virgin Atlantic flight(s).

Following the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and changing travel restrictions, we now have greater levels of certainty to make adjustments to our flying programme from March 2022 onwards.

Just to reassure you, we’re committed to making sure your journey goes ahead, but there will be a change to your existing booking. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this and appreciate your understanding
Over this weekend, your booking will be updated on virginatlantic.com to reflect your cancelled or changed itinerary and the new flights which replace it. You’ll also receive an additional email from us which confirms the changes in more detail, so please keep an eye on your inbox

If loosing the A350, what’s the next best for Upper Class?

Looking at the planned LHR-ATL scheds, it appears it just might be a roll of the dice concerning whether the flight is operated with an A350 or B787-9. We are hoping to travel on board the A350 rather than the B787-9 from LHR to ATL (which would be our first flight ever with Virgin Atlantic).

So my question is this....how often does VS substitute equipment on short notice?

There shouldn't be too many last minute substitutions once all planes are back in action for the summer timetable. Not to say that equipment can't change at late notice, but it should be pretty reliable once the equipment by day of week is known.

Lots of changes overnight. Our late afternoon San Fran flight has moved to the morning. Not a massive deal, but had to rearrange our flight down to Heathrow from Newcastle to the day before and sort out a hotel.

A350 has become a B787, and there is only one UC seat free to change to

How can you tell if you have club suites? Going out to MCO in April and the way out has a seat plan on an A350 with a lot of seats all facing forward. On the way back is also A350 but with diagonal seats.

Very confusing.

I would give it a day for all the changes to finish. You should find then that either the seat map changes to the correct one, or the plane switches to a330

The Manchester to MCO flights have updated correctly earlier today, but not sure about the Heathrow ones. Also keep in mind that there are two sets of A350 configurations, with a leisure one with less UC and a standard one with a larger UC cabin. Could well be different A350s, with one of each layout.
