Hi all,

I need to earn 20 tier points before 31st of December to get upgraded to gold status. Any creative ways to do that quickly and relatively cheaply?

Two solutions I found so far:

- 5 LHR-BOS returns in E, roughly Ł440 each (5 x 4 points)
- 1 LHR-SYD return in UC, roughly Ł4000 (1 x 20 points)

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Did you register for the 12TP bonus and double miles offer before October 15th? (Fly before Feb 28th)?

If so, you only need two return flights in PE or high-bucket Y to make 20TPs. If not, d'oh!

why on earth would you take 5 return flights in 8 weeks simply to earn gold status ?!

^ That too.

Simple general rule in travel life : if you don't fly/stay enough to earn one of those shiny cards, you *probably* (in all logical reality) don't NEED one...

And 20TP short isn't just a little bit - you're only just half way there. Seems a bit of an extreme effort to get a shiny piece of plastic.

The main reason being that I have a number of trips scheduled for 2013 where having a gold status would come in handy, but yeah, I wouldn’t do 5 return flights just for the sake of it, hence looking for more creative ways

In any case, looks like hitting 40 in 2013 rather than 20 by the end of 2013 is more realistic.

In the US Virgin America is a partner and RT in First Class LAX-SFO is worth 4 Tier Points and costs under $500. You might look to see if there are any partners with Virgin Atlantic that have good tier points for short haul flights close to the UK.

This is a copy/paste from my Virgin Atlantic account.

If that's the case, then if I were you, I would save the money that you would spend now on getting gold, and use it to upgrade yourself next year or buy Clubhouse access etc. Without knowing the details of your travel it is hard to generalise, but the extra cost of upgrading from economy to UC using miles can be surprisingly modest. (If you have miles, and if you can find reward seats, of course...)
