Have you tried this feature?
It would be nice if they had a status message option that allowed you to indicate to other pax that you were open to chatting.
I don't feel like randomly annoying people.

I agree it would be cool to have an "open to chat" button, but I wouldn't be too concerned with texting someone else, as they can always just hit ignore and thats the end...the system won't let you keep pestering them.

I would be interested in hearing how this works out. If it is successful, I can introduce them to some marketing people for the airline who would probably want to feature it somewhere.

Used it a few days ago while I was boarding VX to JFK. Saw a friend whom I hadn't seen in a few months in row 8 or so(I was waaaay in the back), and rather than hanging around his seat and slowing the boarding process, I just texted him from my seat. ^

In the not-so-distant past, I had two children under age 2--so two lap infants. I was on a JetBlue flight with my wife and kids, and we had to sit in different rows since there were only 4 oxygen masks for the 3 seats in the row. (Seats across the aisle were taken.) I would've used the texting feature then.
