Cost to upgrade transcon?
Hi All,
I fly LAX <=> JFK all the time and always fly AA. I've used VX for short trips around the west coast and get the check-in upgrade offered for $50.00 all the time.
My question is... how much are the check-in upgrades for the transcontinental flights? Also, are they hard to get?
Thanks!

$250 and you can upgrade up to 24 hours in advance. The best way to get these is to check-in at the 24 hour mark exactly and choose an F seat as part of the check-in process.
SFO-IAD appears to be an easy upgrade; I'm not sure about routes from LAX and/or JFK.

Hmmm...I flew the first SFO-JFK twice in December and upgraded at T-24 both times. Must have been lucky. I had a choice of 3 seats each time.

I bought an upgrade to fc from IAD to LAX on Dec. 24. I bought it on the spot during a traditional check-in at IAD. Only 2 seats were left in fc. The reality is that I bought an upgrade and the seat next to me went empty. The flight left IAD after 20:00 and Y class was full. Since the flight left during dinner time, the dining service was very good and I got a nice nap afterwards on those comfy seats to boot. The $250 upgrade was worth every dollar for a transcon flight leaving at that time of day.
