VX Web site - additional eleVAte details?

I haven't seen any mention of this page on the VX Web site, though it ties in with the new brochure at SFO recently noted.

http://www.virginamerica.com/va/what...wwhatIseleVAte

Starting with your very first flight, you'll earn 5 points for every $1 you spend for travel on Virgin America. Then, in the coming months, youll be able to redeem a free trip for as few as 4,900 points. Earn a free flight after as few as 4 roundtrips!

No mention of whether they will be partnering with any other members of the Virgin Airlines family, though there is a somewhat obscure reference to "partners." The space travel is intriguing since that is definitely a Branson baby.

Virgin America and our partners will offer some extraordinary eleVAte opportunities. As in concertspartiesspecial eventsdream tripsspace travel (no, were not exaggerating).

Cool My message to VX

I just sent an email to [email protected]. The text is as below:
I will fly Virgin America for the first time on March, 18, 2008 when you start flying to Seattle. I would like to offer a few recommendations about eleVAte. Although there are anti-trust issues with code sharing with other airlines in the Virgin Empire I would be thrilled if you joined Velocity Rewards by Virgin Blue. A link to their website is http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/content/. The reasons I like the Velocity Rewards program is because it has elite status--important in a frequent flyer world--lounges, an online store, and many other rewards I would be happy to use points on. My favorite award on the website is the fighter jet experience. As a person who loves flying, I would be happy to use my points to fly in a different type of plane. Furthermore, joining Velocity Rewards would allow easy international partner awards with Virgin Atlantic and V Australia when they start flying to the United States later this year.

If you do not decide to join Velocity Rewards you should implement an elite program with the following benefits:
After 20,000 points in one year ($4,000) or about 13 Seattle-New York flights in the main cabin (for example), give free premium TV shows and a stamp on the frequent flyer boarding pass to indicate a free alcoholic beverage or a free snack up to $5 in the main cabin. This would greatly improve the relationship between flyers and provide incentives to fly on Virgin America. Allow check in at first class lines. Also, a one time free upgrade would be a good loyalty tool to be given every 20,000 points. Collecting points at 1.5 value at this elite level would also help flyer loyalty.

After 40,000 points in one year ($8,666.67), give out all lower elite level benefits in addition to open bar" benefits, in the main cabin you would have a marker on the boarding pass that allows free alcoholic beverages and free food throughout the flight Also, allow free upgrade to premium main cabin seats at this level. Furthermore, invite all people who attain this level to a frequent flyer get together at Virgin America headquarters with 1 on 1 talking to management. After this level, collect points at double value.

I notice that on your website you list "space travel" as an award capability. I assume you mean partnering with Virgin Galactic. If you do partner with other airlines from the Virgin Empire you should consider code sharing on their flights in the near future, one class ticketing Seattle-London (through New York and San Francisco).

A few questions about eleVAte. You write that awards will start at "4,900 points" which is equivalent to $980. A roundtrip airfare Seattle-New York in First Class is $1400, equaling 7,000 points, more than enough for a free roundtrip ticket. Also less than four roundtrips, how can you explain this inconsistency? Furthermore, you write on your website that rewards will be "easy to use." Could we get the reward possibilities now? How long will we, you customers, have to wait for redemption information?

For more frequent flyer information please look at www.flyertalk.com in the "Other North and South American Airline" forum, that is where the current discussion on Virgin America is going on. A direct link to the ad hoc Virgin America forum is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forum...ysprune=&f=472. On Flyertalk my screen name is prismwiz if you want to see more of my ideas.

Thank you for reading this and possibly implementing some of my ideas.

Does everyone like my elite level ideas? Just a basic sketch, in Velocity Rewards the second elite level is at 50,000 points after $9,000. In Velocity Rewards the first elite status gets priority check in, baggage tag, discount on lounge, and one free lounge pass. The higher level gets free lounge access and higher baggage allowance. Please voice any comments, questions, and concerns about my plan.
