Can't wait for the Virgin SAN-JFK flights to compete with the DL ones... not sure which ones I'd choose!!

What do you mean Alaska doesn't offer SAN-SFO anymore? Has this been announced? If so when is it ending? They are the ones that made SFO-SAN fares reasonable. Currently I still see the fares offered in the sytem, but if they are pulling out the SFO-SAN fares on UA will skyrocket again and I'll have to buy some ASAP.

Looks like we will be on the same flight as I booked that one yesterday.

Me three!

Sounds like an FT mini-do :)

(I assume referring to VX 851, which appears to be the only one that was ever bookable on 8/8 in that direction...)

Their transcon prices don't seem significantly cheaper to me. $480 to fly JFK-SFO and while it allowed me to set my home airport to BOS they don't offer any service there yet.

Definitely looking forward for this Wednesday! ^

Since it's now the evening of 8/7 and their website has not changed will the flights on 8/8 actually happen? JFK-SFO appears to be entirely sold out for 8/8 or at least you can't buy any more tickets for it. That's a lot of unhappy people, especially if they're not just flying it for the novelty factor.

No DOT final authorization as of 7:00 PM EDT, 8/7. They certainly are cutting it close.

Lurker1999 Aug 7, 2007 5:28 pm

This Guardian UK article states they received authorization on Tuesday (8/7) but now someone else doesn't want them to fly.

CNN article stating the same.

Good for you!!! Say, how do you always manage to be so lucky to be on so many inaugurals... do you work? :)

haha. I still missed a couple of UA ones, just lucky on the others. :)

Yeah, I have a day job, it's flexible. I just might be up working at 3am playing catchup.

gooseman13 Aug 7, 2007 8:14 pm

Just to reiterate, DOT final order came this afternoon. VX is now a fully certified Part 121 air carrier.

Inaugural flights out of JFK and LAX were never on sale. These were reserved for employees, VIPs, media, as well as a couple seats auctioned off with the proceeds going to charity. Two tickets JFK-SFO roundtrip, one night hotel, and two tickets to tomorrow nights launch party in SF went for about $5000 on Ebay.

Wireless Aug 7, 2007 9:16 pm

hmmm, I had a hunch I missed the fun flights. VX34 is the first departing flight that seems to have been for sale to the public.

I would have rather been at the SF party, I should have worked my contacts on that one :)
