Virgin America eleVAte!

I just signed up for Virgin America's eleVAte program!

tom911 Jul 19, 2007 3:31 am

Is this their frequent flyer program? Can you tell is how points/miles will accumulate or be redeemed?

SkaterJasp Jul 19, 2007 4:09 am

I have no idea what it does, I just signed up for it. HAHA. Looks like their keeping track of all the flights you been on and will be going on and I guess once they figure out their awards / point / miles system, they'll retro it back to all the flights you've been on with them. I think that what their doing.

Absinthe Jul 19, 2007 4:48 am

On eleVAte you earn 5 points for every $1 spent. You earn free trips after 4,900 points. There are no blackout dates ever on eleVAte. Those who join by the end of '07 become a "Founding Member".

I just booked a one way from SFO to LAX on Aug 8!!!

Indylt Jul 19, 2007 10:53 am

I'm booked on the 8th SFO to LAX as well and then the following week to JFK. I booked JFK in first (about $800.00 round trip) which is a great deal if the product is as good as it looks on the web site. Its been hard to do anything this morning since the web site seems to be overloaded.

This is not exactly what the website says, but in any event it's difficult to see, in the long run, how four roundtrips would not generate 4,900 points 4 x 245 = $980 = 4,900 points.

I can't book any Aug 8th flight

Hi all,

I am so excited for VX and have literally been waiting patiently... but...

I tried to book the inaugural flights on August 8th this morning at 2:30amPDT and none were available... so I tried till 3am PDT and called the new reservation line only to be told... they were not for sale till August 9th.

I wonder how you guys get to book this inaugural flight!

I just wrote to both the customer line and media folks... begging to buy a seat on the inaugural.

The flights showed sold out, but yet seats seem to be available in F and Y.

I guess they must be blocking for VIPs, but I find it a bit disappointing that some of the seats are not available for us.

Well I booked LAX-SFO-JFK on August 9th now.

Carfield

Indylt Jul 19, 2007 11:44 am

When I booked a few hours ago on the web site, the only flight left was a 4:15 SFO to LAX (coach only) and nothing LAX SFO on the 8th. I grabbed the 4:15 and return the following morning.

neuro0 Jul 19, 2007 12:47 pm

website down

By any chance, anyone know the schedule for JFK to LAX and vv. I want to try them in October.

Thanks.

Never mind! Found it!

What can I expect in terms of food service in First Class SFO-JFK? I'm ready to book the $389 promo and cancel my $645 ticket on CO SFO-EWR. But not before finding out what I'll get (or won't get) up front on VA.
The link to "see the VA difference" isn't working....

Maybe you earn a ticket if you either fly 4 round trip or if you earn 4900 points, which ever is first. Like if you book all your travel during peak time in first class when fares are super expensive than I can see how you can earn 4900 points with out having to fly 4 round trips.

How about some goodies to entice to join NOW??

SkaterJasp would you mind adding the link to the eleVAte program to your original post? There is a join link on that page. Just joined. :)

Love one of the secret questions:

"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood"

Straight from Monkey Island:

Guybrush: "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
Carpenter: "A woodchuck could chuck no amount of wood since a woodchuck can't chuck wood."
Guybrush: "But if a woodchuck could chuck and would chuck some amount of wood, what amount of wood would a woodchuck chuck?"
Carpenter: "Even if a woodchuck could chuck wood and even if a woodchuck would chuck wood, should a woodchuck chuck wood?"
Guybrush: "A woodchuck should chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood, as long as a woodchuck would chuck wood."
Carpenter: "Oh shut up."

Kiwi Flyer Jul 19, 2007 11:40 pm

I'm a bit distracted today, but I realise that the eleVAte sketchy details sound very much like DJ (Virgin Blue) Velocity rewards program.

Earning based on fare.
No restrictions on awards.
Award cost depends on fare availability.

so, 1 r/t in F earns a free tkt?

It looks like I am going to book 3 tkts in F to meet up with my UAL flts to AKL The price comes to about 1k for each r/t. SO, based on what I am reading I would get 5K elevate points and that would be enough for a R/t in coach? The price is cheaper than a Y-up on CO and it looks like it would be worth the schlepp over to JFK (we normally go EWR)

If so that is a great deal. I like the idea of the mood lighting in the cabin. Way cool. Anything that Sir Richard is involved in has to be cool!

Checked the UA site and it would be more than VA. Any ideas when they will be flying out of EWR?

Yes, it does, but it will also subject you to the delays of big cities with famous airports (think fog and rain at SFO, or the 5pm rush at JFK). Will be interesting to see the "on time" factor after a few months of operation from these airports.

Easy to understand and enjoy?

From the website:

"Starting with your very first flight, you'll earn 5 points for every $1 you spend for travel on Virgin America. Then, in the coming months, you’ll be able to redeem a free trip for as few as 4,900 points. Earn a free flight after as few as 4 roundtrips!"

My concern is with "as few as 4,900 points"? Is that maybe for a short-haul (e.g. SFO-LAX) flight, or could it also be for a SFO-JFK trip? If so, I would consider purchasing the discounted F fare for a SFO-JFK r/t since that would immediately earn enough points for another SFO-JFK r/t. 2 SFO-JFK roundtrips for $890, with one in F...not too shabby.

But I'll await some clarification from VA on this...

gsupstate Jul 20, 2007 5:04 pm

I'm a Founding Member! Yea!! Now, what? I'm afraid the closest airport that's mentioned anywhere that VX will fly anytime soon is IAD. I can find a way to fly somewhere from there!!

What can anyone add to the earlier post about food service onboard? The info on the website is VERY vague....

If, as I suspect, it is based on Virgin Blue's Velocity program I expect 4900 equates to SFO-LAX vv and SFO-LAS vv, but only when the most discounted paid fare classes are available.

Sir Richard Branson will be on the JFK-SFO inagural flight!

Joined today even though VA isn't at PVD yet, just want Founding Member Status. :) It'll be interesting to see what benefits will come of it.

It set my home destination as BOS, sign of things to come?

I do hope VA makes it to PVD at some point though.

By the way - anyone know the special founding member perks?

Let me guess - you were one of those who joined in on the petitioning to STOP VX from starting up?

Get over it.

Add me to the list of FTers that are excited about VX. Most of my flights are SFO-LAX and SFO-JFK so I will likely give them a try. Can I petition for SFO-ORD to complete my troika of flights I am always on. If they hook eleVAte up with Virgin Atlantic's frequent flyer program, I may never fly UA/LH again.

PapiTheWriter Jul 23, 2007 8:27 pm

I joined - Maybe I will mix up my JFK/SFO flights from MIA a bit... just to check 'em out - hehehe

Maybe they will come down here next year!

Peace!

A free trip for only spending $980? How cheap are the fares?

Also, to where can one fly for 4,900 points? It might be SFO-LAX.

Don't all the JFK-LAX flights connect in SFO ? Or just some on the schedule ? I looked at booking on 8/16 and it showed a connect, and with all the directs to LAX I'm not sure it's worth the stopover. Although I'm pretty excited about the Y class. It looks a lot better than CO right now and a lot cheaper !
