Cannot assign MCS seats
I am new to VX so please bear with me.
I have just booked a reservation in Main Cabin Select (Z fare class) for a flight far in the future (April 2017). 3 passengers, including a child, so we'd like to sit next to each other in row 3.
When I go to the map to assign seats, every single seat is grayed out, including row 3. Is this because the flight is too far out in the future? What will happen on the day of flight if seats in row 3 are taken? The child cannot be in an exit row, so will they split us up and re-seat... where?

Call the reservations desk and they might be able to help. Ask them to waive the fee because you cannot do it online.

Now I wonder if there is a risk we'll end up in separate middle seats in regular economy instead of the MCS we paid for. Not exactly what I had in mind booking a ticket 9 months in advance...

Already called. Zero help from them. Could not assign seats in row 3, either, and told me to wait until we get to the airport where we'll most likely have to be split up.

Called 3 times, spoke to 2 supervisors and a second-level supervisor. Nothing doing. "There are people already with seats assigned in row 3 and we cannot kick them out. You'll have to sort it out at the airport on the day of flight."
I asked who has the power to move these people out of row 3 and the answer was nobody except the gate agent on the day of flight.
I do wonder what's going to happen at the airport. If they downgrade us from MCS to main cabin (which seems like the only possibility since a child cannot be in an exit row), do we have to pay for baggage? Food?

But if there are children in row 3, this'll get interesting...

Also, row 11 is not an exit row. But it's not an MCS row, either, so does not help in my case.
