Virgin America Has Begun Overbooking Flights

It's never been their policy before, but they have recently begun to overbook the economy cabin only on selected routes, based on no shows and any open seats in the main cabin select and first class seats.

It's limited to SEA-LAX, LAX-SFO, LAX-DFW, LAX-JFK, SFO-LAS, SFO-SAN right now, and testing through the end of February.

Wonder how much they're giving out as compensation.....

Interesting, they finally realized that revenue management can be useful in the airline business...

We're not technically overselling flights. We are overselling Main Cabin seats and upgrading higher status Elevate members to other classes of service. This will ensure we generate as much revenue as possible from the Main Cabin seats, but not inconveniencing guests.

Does that mean a possibility of comp. F upgrades?
