This isn't like sending a man to the moon. Any idea on why it's taking VX longer to implement a freakin' electronic inflight magazine than it takes to get a bachelor's degree? Or is this the Duke Nukem Forever of RED?
I would think that if they think it's an expense... just get rid of the button. That's valuable real estate to waste on something you'll never do.

I think the onboard IM has a creepy factor that outweighs the positives. Do you like getting hit on by the bear fetishist two rows behind? Really?
As for reading; isn't that what kindle is for?
I'm still astounded by the number of people who still watch their onboard movies via a tiny smartphone screen despite a generous 9" seatback display. Simply obnoxious!
The future may indeed be a robust broadband wifi where you download the airline's proprietary app onto your tablet after takeoff and get your entertainment off there. You'd just log into the app everytime you fly and get automatic updates to content. However, getting on AA/UA or any other legacy lately with no seatback IFE just screams quaint to me.
