Am I missing something?

Happy New Year.

I am new to Virgin America and trying to purchase a ticket SFO-FLL for 1/4. I have done some research and Main Cabin Select sounds much better than Main Cabin (38" pitch and free food and drinks), yet when I look on their site Main Cabin is $419 and Main Cabin Select Instant Upgrade is less at $404. It sounds too good to be true. Am I missing something?

Thank you.

Also, I travel predominantly on UA and LH. I do not foresee more than 2-3 trips on Virgin America this year. Is it worth signing up for Elevate?

Main Cabin Select fares often drop the closer you get to a flight date, sometimes even less than Main Cabin. if you want it and it's lower, I'd grab it.

This happens on a regular basis on BOS-LAX and BOS-SFO -- when Main Cabin is nearly sold out, and MCS has not sold much, the MCS fares will be lower than Main Cabin. I would say I see it on 20-30% of the flights I book.

Yes, sign up. Right now expiration rules are not very favorable, but you never know when things may change and you'll have accumulated points on your spending from the beginning. Never turn away points, heck I even have a Rapid Rewards account and I have only flown WN once in the past 3 years.

Thank you all for your responses

Booked my husband in Main Cabin Select and will sign up for Elevate tonight. I am looking forward to hearing his impressions about VX.
