I am flying out of Louisville on Friday around 3:00 pm heading to NYC. Winter storm Hunter is scheduled to hit, only about 3 inches of snow, but it will be preceded by an ice storm / freezing rain.
what are the odds I will I be delayed or the flight just cancelled?
I need to get home.
Leaving sooner is not an option.
What are your thoughts? Does American Airlines fly the ERJ -145 in freezing rain?

I think the odds are very high you will be at least delayed, if not altogether cancelled.

The issue isn't the EMB145 capability to be de-iced and fly. It would be fine.
The bigger threat is overall strain on ATC and airports, which cause airlines to start cancelling flights. And the small planes are the 1st to cancel.

If in driving distance at all, that might be a good alternative. At least keep it in mind if the re-booking options appear bleak.
Drive should take about 11 hours, which might be the fastest way home, if critical.
(And yes, I have done it EWR->DAY more than once...)

Good luck.

There is absolutely no way to predict this without even knowing your flight time.

If there are weather concerns at NYC or enroute and that limits landings, a -145 into one of those airports might well be delayed or cancelled. But, maybe not if the crew or aircraft are needed Simply no way to predict.
