ESTA application for a child

Morning,

My wife and I are due to fly to MCO on the 16th of December with our 22 month year old. We have 2 year ESTA's as visited NY earlier this year.

My question is, how do I apply for a 22 month year old? Won't they think it odd that he is the only person on the application?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nick

ESTA questions are usually discussed in the USA forum.

I assume your child already has a passport. In that case, then, simply apply for an ESTA on their behalf.

If ever questioned about it, you are a third party (e.g. parent) applying for an ESTA on behalf of your child. There is no problem with this. It's more common that parents think their non-ticketed infant does not require a passport or ESTA, when in fact they need both. So it's the right thing to get the ESTA for them.

CBP can and does care about minor children traveling without parents (e.g. trafficking or kidnapping) , but if both custodial parents accompany the child to the border it is not usually a problem at all. No one will care that the ESTA application is only for the minor.

It happens to us all the time with only 1 child on the ESTA because the infant passport expires 2 years and a child passport expires after 5 years. We have 3 kids with less than 3 years difference so we will need ESTA in various times.

If your passport expires so do your ESTA, you'll need a new one when you get a new passport.
