Standard processing time. December 26, 2018, passport renewal application filled up online, printed and mailed via Priority Mail. January 18, 2019, new passport received (date of issue - January 15, 2019). She's still waiting for the return of her old passport. |
New Passport
I'm here in AZ. Went down to the county clerks office and filled for new first time passport 16+ with standard processing on 1/16. Havent gotten any notification that it's been received. I'm leaving to Brazil on 2/23 and still need to get my visa once I get my passport. What do you guys think are my chances of getting it on it before 2/15?
|
you could call the clerk and ask if they know how long first issues take. my first one 10 years ago took about 6 weeks.

Renewed my standard adult passport a month or two before expiration, routine service. Also got a passport card this time (my driver's license is Real ID compliant, but I figured it couldn't hurt to get an extra ID for $30). Total time was just under 5 weeks.
Mailed form/old passport: Jan 11 Check cleared: Jan 15 Received new passport: Feb 13 Received passport card: Feb 16 Received old passport: Feb 18 |
Found this super helpful so I wanted to give my timeline.
Renewed adult passport regular service through Philadelphia. Jan 20ish: Mailed Jan 24: Delivered Jan 25: Check Cleared Feb 20: Processing complete and passport printed Feb 23: Received new passport Whole process took about 30-35 days. It looks like it's taking slightly longer than it has in the past for regular service. |

Passport and Passport Card Renewal, standard processing
Jan 16, 2019: Mailed from Virginia to Philadelphia, Priority Mail Jan 22, 2019: Check cashed Feb 16, 2019: New passport received in mail Feb 20, 2019: New passport card received in mail Still awaiting receipt of old, cancelled passport. 31 days door-to-door for passport Interestingly, I don't know exactly when it was received in Philadelphia - to this day the tracking info still states it is 'delayed, but still in transit'. It had me quite worried but I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that the check was cashed, and State Dept had a locator number for my application. |
Became a citizen on Feb 12th, 2019 (almost 13 months after applying). First time adult passport application on the same day. Passport application became trackable online on Feb 18th. Anyone know if the Washington DC passport office takes walk-ins for emergency processing?
It's Sunday March 3, earliest appointment per the automated system is 0830 March 7, but we have a death emergency requiring travel March 4 evening. Could we show up Monday morning with all docs in hand and get a passport same day? Or do they release some same-day appointments first thing in the morning? |

Thanks so much for the info.
Do you think since I put the date of my trip on the application, that I can get it fast enough without the expedited? I'm surprised that you have sent yours weeks ago and haven't had anything processed yet. :( |

Feb 16: mailed passport first class.
Feb 21: online status shows passport received at center and processing. March 13, 1:01 AM: "We have finished processing your passport, and it has been printed." March 13, 2:47 AM: "Your tracking number is nnnnn and the expected date of delivery is 03/18/2019." Will post again when the passport arrives. |
20 days not expedited and 14 days expedited is fast for this time of year. Here in California motor vehicle appointments for Real ID's are 3 weeks or so out... easier and quicker to get a passport.
Have you called the Passport info line (1-877-487-2778) to find out if you can pay to have your app expedited and add 1-2 day shipping? You may also want to find out if you can go to a passport agency to apply if you don't get it before early April. May end up having to repay fees though not fun but better than having it effect your trip. I paid Expedited Processing $60.00 and 1-2 Day Delivery $16.48 if you look at my post above it's about a 2 week return time (assuming it arrives on time with no errors).Less than 2-3 weeks. |
