Mailed - July 7
Received - July 11

Website status never changed after it became Approved (I got the mail date from the USPS envelope) and like others I never received an email at any point.

Just updating because I received my old passport back today in case it’s helpful:

Old passport mailed - July 12
Old passport received - July 17

Overall surprised how quickly and smoothly it went but I sympathize with others with delays or issues.

Thanks for sharing. Process seems going pretty smoothly in Philly. Called everyday about the old passport, not much they can do other than putting in a note.

My passport was not due to expire until the end of March 2024. I was going to wait until November, when we return from a trip, to apply for a new one.

Then, our plans changed; we are now planning a trip to a destination which requires six months validity beyond our planned stay.
  • I completed the fillable PDF application online, submitted it, printed it and mailed it by Priority Mail on July 5. I paid for expedited service and faster return shipping.
  • The application arrived and was picked up at the Philadelphia Post Office on July 7.
  • The application was received by the State Department on July 10.
  • My check for the passport fee cleared my bank on July 11.
  • Application Status: In Process
Unfortunately, according to the tracking number, it was assigned to the New Orleans Passport Agency.

7 May 2023 Mailed (regular mail for $2.22) 2 passport renewals
12 May 2023 Passport office accepted the applications with no additional services ordered
Passport renewals went to processing center 42 (New Orleans)
14 July 2023 Passports issued
18 July 2023 Received the new passports in the mail

Still waiting for the old passports to arrive in the mail.

I'm OK with the whole process.

My application acceptance date and passport delivery date are both one day earlier than yours, but I paid $120 for expedited service (2 passports). The service is such a joke. The whole system is a big mess.

Replacing a limited-validity/emergency passport, which was issued at an embassy.
  • May 10 - Acceptance Date
  • July 26 - Received USPS Informed Delivery notification. Looking at the package timeline details, the passport appears to have been issued/approved around July 24-25.
  • Passport sent from Tucson
  • The first two numbers on my application locator number are 35. The office list in the FAQ above does not list this number, so I have no idea which office reviewed my application.
  • If you are replacing a limited-validity passport before expiration, the application fee is waived. I did pay around $150 at the embassy when I got my emergency passport, so I guess it evens out.

The turnaround time is definitely getting shorter.

Passport office recorded my renewal application as received on June 21, new passport arrived today - exactly 5 weeks from when they logged in my application to me having the new passport in hand.

This was regular processing, not expedited.

Update: old passport arrived today, 12 days after the new one arrived. This was by regular mail.

Speaking just for myself, I've known for years, maybe 12 to 15 years, that members of Congress could assist with passport issues. It's always been on my Representative's webpage under "Constituent Services"

Applied at post office: 05/10/2023
Received by State Dept: 05/15/2023
As of today: Friday 7/28/2023 it is still in "In Process" status

I called the National Passport Information Center because I have international travel booked for Friday 8/11/2023.

They told me they could not physically access my record because that travel is not "within" two weeks (which is the wordage used on the passport application website.) It's semantics, whether "within" means "14 days or less" or "less than 14 days", but I was told that's a hard requirement.

It got me thinking that I could have just said I travel on Thursday 8/10/2023 and they'd have had no way of knowing, but I'm not going to lie to the State Department.

But they are closed weekends, meaning I need to call back Monday, which is a mere 11 days before traveling.

Am I screwed here? What are the odds I get any kind of positive response? Should I consider rebooking?

I called Saturday 7am PT. Was the agent's second call :)

Unfortunately, the 14 days exactly from date of travel does NOT include weekends (or federal holidays), so I need to call yet again first thing tomorrow morning. Wish that exclusion was noted somewhere on the website.

Halfway to panicville :(

How did this go for you? I am in the exact same position.

Just an FYI, my new passport arrived in my mailbox when the online status still said "In Process" so they may not be updating the system in a timely manner and yours might be in the mail.

Applying for a minor under 16

Does anyone have datapoints on recent applications via USPS in person applications for a minor under 16?

We’re able to snag an appointment for next week and wanted a sense of turnaround times.

Almost booked a trip tonight before checking the government sites (destination and US State dept) and the destination says 6 month validity from exit but State Dept says, “Passports must be valid at time of entry through departure (throughout the duration of stay).” Not going to take the chance that the State Dept could be wrong. Current expiry is in March 2024 and travel was at the end of December 2023.

We got our son’s minor passport in 2022. Appointment at a community college near our home city. We got his photos at a walgeeens. We did the application pdf on passport wizard and then printed it. Then appointment. Then after the appointment we must have used our checks etc at the appointment or I mailed it by priority mail. I just forget.

Thank you. That is slightly reassuring. I will of course still call first thing on Monday.

Status ‘not available’ after one month

I mailed in in an expedited passport renewal 27 June 2023; it was received 30 June and my check was cashed 3 July 2023. I’ve been checking for an update online and as of today I’m still getting a ‘not available’ status-but a friend of mine appplued a week after I did and his status is ‘in process’. Should I be concerned that my application was lost? At what point do you recommend reaching out to my senator’s office for assistance? Overseas travel is 29 October. Thank you gif any thoughts/suggestions!
