My renewal using normal mail and no expedite took about 30 days. The new passport was sent by priority mail. In my opinion it isn't worth paying for expedited but your experience may vary. I'd just do it sooner rather than later so you have some extra buffer time before your travel.
Also don't be surprised if you can't update your new passport info on the global entry site right away. From what I've researched it can take 30 to 45 days before it will recognize your new passport number. It's been about 30 days since I got my new passport and I haven't been able to update yet. From what I've read your new passport will still work for GE even if not yet updated on their web site. My 2 cents: I stopped by the enrollment center near LAX and they did update the document info right away when TTP wouldn't allow it online. They also did state that you can go to the "Global Entry enrollment on arrival" line on an international arrival if you need a document updated to use the kiosks, they may manually process you for entry but then the document is updated that way too for future use. |

After the cashed the check, I think I got the passport within a week. Is the 30-45 days the time til you can put it in the system online, or do you have to wait that long even to goto an office to get it updated? Seeing that you don't even scan your passport anymore at GE, I guess you can just try it. |
Regular renewal by mail - 4 week processing time
OCT 25 - Mailed application with Priority Mail to Irving OCT 27 - Delivered OCT 29 - Check paid NOV 24 - Passport tendered to USPS via Priority Mail from Tucson NOV 29 - Received new passport (old design despite from Tucson), new passport card, and old passport in three separate mailings all on same day. |

Passport renewal
Going on a cruise in March. Submitted my passport renewal DS82 this week, tracked the package and it was delivered to the center yesterday. I paid for expedited processing service, but didn’t do the extra 1-2 delivery for the passport return. Please settle my anxiety and tell me I’ll have my passport back in time !!

I recently had pretty good luck when it comes to renewing.
November 14 - Dropped off at USPS November 17 - Renewal shows up in tracking system November 29 - Passports mailed December 1 - Passports received FWIW I paid for expedited processing and return shipping. |
Does anyone know if they restart the process/application if additional evidence is required? They received my application (expedited) on 10/1, got a letter asking for additional document 3 weeks later, they got it 11/18. Wonder if I need to count 5-7 weeks from 11/18 now?

I'm here to report a data point and it's good news.
I had to do a DS-11 full application in person to replace my lost passport book. I paid for expedited processing and expedited mailing. Submitted at Cook County Court in Chicago -- no appointments, 15 minute wait. I applied for normal book + passport card. (DS-64 reporting lost passport was submitted online when DS-11 filled out, around Nov 7) Nov 12: Submitted application at acceptance facility Nov 22: "In Process" (code 42 -- New Orleans) Nov 23: check cashed Dec 3: "Approved" (expected arrival date Dec 8) Dec 3: Mailed via 1-day Priority Mail Express. Return address says "New Orleans" but tracking number said it originated in Tucson. Dec 4: Passport book (old "e-Passport" style) arrives in my mailbox. Total: 22 days (3 weeks + 1 day) Basically 1 week to get there, and then 2 weeks to be approved, then fast next-day delivery. |
