Transfer in US before VISA expires

I am considering booking a flight from Europe via ORD/IAD/JFK to YYZ. This is a one week stay at YYZ. My US Visa expires 2 weeks after my return segment. I am EU resident, my visa is B1/B2. I would fly AA or UA.

1. Do I need a visa to transfer to Canada in ORD/IAD/JFK/EWR ?
2. Can I travel so shortly before the VISA expiration?

Which country are you a citizen of? As far as I know, some EU countries still need a visa for Canada, i.e Bulgaria and Romania, but you should check it out. Here is the link to the CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp

I do not need visa for Canada (I know that). My question is whether I need a visa for US, if transferring in US, and whether a soon invalid visa is OK (two weeks beyond my travel times). I normally need a visa for residence in US, but I do not know how aiports are organized -- so I do not know whether I can stay airside/international zone for transfer, like often possible in Europe.

I was answering #2 in your original post:

I read it as asking if you needed the visa to enter (transfer) to Canada. Like when checking in. Sorry, misinterpreted the question. Perhaps you should have said - do I need a US visa to transit through ORD etc. if staying airside? In any case, was just trying to help.

If you need a visa to enter the US, you'll need a valid (non-expired) visa to transit, even if you never leave the airport.

There are no international transit zones at U.S. airports. All arriving passengers must clear U.S. customs and immigration inspections even if they are only transferring to other international flights.
