it would be helpful if...

I'm getting a late start here folks so it would be great if more people could post dates purchased/dates posted data for the various partners. I would like to buy 4 quickies, wait for posting, then jump on TIB big... TIB seems to post rather fast.

anyone care to list confirm fast posting partners and/or partners that post at original purchase date when they do post. I've gone through the whole thread but only seen a few posts of this.

thanks

I did the following ALL on 12/8 (yesterday)

FTD - Gift for gf - $70 + shipping
ThanksAgain - Restaurant.com cert - $4 (no shipping)
B&N - eBook - $0.88 (no shipping)
Sears - gift card - $5 (free shipping)
Gaiam - tree - $2 (no shipping)
TIB - Mega corporate pack LOL - $500 + shipping

Surprisingly, TIB posted first, and very quickly:

12/8/2009 12/09/09 TRACKITBACK.COM WORRY-FREE TRAVEL MILES 20,000

I'm considering making 5 more $500 purchases from TIB... they really lucked out with this promo..

Interestingly, my credit card doesn't show the TIB purchase yet..

If you care at all about the TIB product, the Small Business Pack @ $300 is a better value than the Corporate Power Pack @ $500. Also, don't forget you don't want to have more than 10 transactions in total.

mirobatka Dec 9, 2009 9:13 pm

I did: (none have posted so far)

11/24 iTunes via ThanksAgain
11/24 iTunes via DM Shopping Mall
12/02 Buy.com via DM Shopping Mall
12/02 BarnesNoble via DM Shopping Mall
12/07 Sears GC
12/07 Omaha Steaks GC

I am thinking I will do 2-3 more transactions quickly and wait maybe a week. Then pull the trigger on TIB.

They are property tags used to recover lost items.
http://www.trackitback.com/portal/whatwedo.html
If you lose an item, hopefully the person who finds it will see the TIB sticker and go online or call TIB. TIB will pay for the item to be returned to you, worldwide. TIB will provide the "finder" with "$100 worth" of tags. You can choose to provide the finder with a cash reward.

To me, the TIB product itself is like extended warranties - TIB has calculated that revenue will be greater than the cost of providing the service. The people who pay for the service but get no benefit subsidize those who do get something returned plus provide TIB with a profit to boot (TIB hopes).

The big benefit for DM members (unless you lose something of value and TIB gets it returned to you) is cheap miles. 40 miles per dollar spent is a pretty good deal by itself, but with this promo giving up to 140 miles per dollar it's a great deal. The only cheaper way to get miles is by flying when it is either required or desired anyway - in effect those miles are free since the flight(s) would have been taken anyway.

Well.. I guess I'll use however many tags I need and then maybe sell the rest on eBay/craigslist? I doubt anyone will buy them, but who knows. If I can sell them even half-price I'll be more than happy.

Otherwise I dunno what to do with them... 'Lose' my own stuff and claim the rewards for 'returning' them? LOL

Haha, right. And as a rewards for 'finding' your stuff, you'll get $100 worth of tags more... Haha.

Haha.. I didn't even bother to read how the rewards were paid... Well.. I guess you could try to sell those too... continue selling/claiming rewards until you're out (if you're ever out; depends on your initial conditions)

Oh well, I'll live with 84 sets of tags instead of 93. :D

I wonder if you can use these for pets? :D

I'm curious on the 'don't want more than 10 transactions' comment. I am going to be doing around 20 FTD purchases for Chrsitmas gifts. I don't expect to get the 250% bonus on most of those but going over doesn't negate the first 10 does it?

I've done six merchant purchases:
1. BN.com
2. Harry & David
3. OfficeMax
4. Buy.com
5. FTD.com
6. Trackitback

So if I bang through another 20 for FTD in a few days I'm hoping to get the 250% bonus on all of the above, plus the next 4 FTD's that I make, then back to the regular miles for the balance of the FTD's.

Correct?

You get normal miles after the first 10 transactions, but you can't control the posting order. I suppose your safe, though, if you wait for TIB to post before exceeding 10.

dingo Dec 10, 2009 6:28 am

I realize that Buy.com is not one of the merchants...don't know why I said that actually. Remove Buy.com and insert Biscoff.

I can't seem to find out many base miles OfficeMax earns. They aren't even listed in the mall as a partner. Anyone know how many miles per dollar (pre big bonus) OM earns?

officemax will earn 10.5 miles x $ with the bonus which is pretty good too. gc also qualify. I might get me a $3k gift card which I will use later on to get a free RT tix (30k) : )

iif you are at the 10 store limit , use a family members usair # to maximize your miles.

chontz Dec 10, 2009 9:19 am

just another open-ended data point...

purchased all on 12/4 but have not posted on US/DM acct:
1. Borders GC
2. Nordstrom Gc
3. Gaiam tree
4. Macy's GC (already shipped and delivered)

still feeling a bit anxious before pulling the plug on the TIB purchase...

halothane Dec 10, 2009 9:40 am

Just pulled the trigger on track it back. I'm in for 1 mil.

I'm curious about when you placed the DM Wireless order? In the Grand Slam promo, they took 10 weeks to post, and some are still waiting including a family member.

The shopping mall post was Sears.

From looking at my history and others:

Officemax posts on Monday mornings, possibly one week + Monday.
Thanks again posts on Tuesday mornings, in some cases the next week.
Trackitback posts on Wednesday mornings, the next week.
The shopping mall posts on Thursday mornings, it looks like with a one week delay.

So, I'm ready to go - I just need to decide on how many miles I want.

lettezilla Dec 10, 2009 11:04 am

OK, just trying to make sure my head is around this properly...

I'm planning on 5 cheap purchases-
magazines.com sub I want
FTD flowers for mom
Macy's GC
2 other cheap GCs for places we use

I'm kind of steering away from sharebuilder as I don't want any more accounts and other clubs and subscriptions like netflix and wine clubs as they seem like a higher potential for confusion.

And then obviously TiB is the big earner. My husband thinks he's read something about only being able to do $500 at a time, so purchases 6-10 could each be TiB $500, to whatever limit we're planning on? Or can you just stick $1000 worth of corporate packs in your cart and get the appropriate bonus?

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to email the airline and merchants and report back-- it's hugely useful for those of us that are newer and a bit clueless!

ArizonaGuy Dec 10, 2009 11:09 am

21st Century is listed - and I got miles for the quote! Their system actually allowed me to get another 100 miles even though I got a quote and miles in October for the Grand Slam promo.

Yes, you can do as many as you want in a single purchase and will receive 40 points per dollar spent.

but 40 points plus the bonus? no limit on the bonus amount? thanks!

ArizonaGuy Dec 10, 2009 11:34 am

The 21st can't get here fast enough. I'm waiting for my CC closing date before making my big TIB purchase. :)

ExitRowAisle Dec 10, 2009 11:59 am

One other thing to consider. If you order from a store, and your order gets shipped at different times or from different places, your miles may post in small increments rather than as one big block of miles. That could "use up" some of your partners in this promo.

I happened to order 3 items from B&N at one time, and my credit card was charged for two separate purchases that add up to the expected grand total (I think the charges were even on the same day). Based on previous experiences with airline shopping malls, I think there is a high probability that those two charges will show up as two different postings on my US DM account -- so what would have been 1 partner out of the critical 10 is now 2 partners.

Ho Ng Dec 10, 2009 12:01 pm

Holiday bonus

I bought the $500 Trackitback corporate pack on Tues Dec 8. 20,000 miles posted Wed Dec 9. Good customer service from trackitback! I made 5 small bonus-qualifying purchases minutes prior to that with my Juniper Usairways mastercard which caused Juniper's fraud dept.to block my card. A phone call resolved the problem.

The small purchases were:
  • bn.com
  • officemax
  • staples
  • thanksagain
  • skymall

I've read most of this thread. Has it been definitely determined that multiple purchases from the same source will all get the bonus?

I'm thinking of making another trackitback purchase of about $1000.00

You MUST enter through the link for this specific promotion -- to see the US-specific offers -- but more importantly to even earn the 250% bonus on purchases.

Follow this link, click on the 'Earn Miles' tab and you will see them.

US Airways' partner transactions actually post more quickly than with many other FF/hotel programs.

The TrackItBack offer is pretty interesting.

During the Grand Slam promotion, I wrote to TrackItBack suggesting they consider expanding the number of products eligible for miles because people were looking for inexpensive products in the Grand Slam. They responded saying that marketing would look at doing something. I'm wondering if this 40 miles / $ was their solution. Wow.
